Mach City iBike 7 Speed (2018) - Review

The Mach City iBike 7 Speed has the same frame build as its Single Speed and Hardtail counterparts. The full steel frame is strong and can take a beating on the roughest of urban surfaces. While it is heavy the rigidity helps ride swiftly on city roads. The simple frame geometry helps get into a comfortable straight back riding posture.

This bicycle is the only geared version of the Mach City iBike series. This is a 1 x 7 speed drivetrain with Shimano's Tourney derailleur at the rear. This set up is the most basic but is enough to ride through traffic and climb flyovers in the city. The Shimano Revo shifters are classic old school, which is slowly being phased out in other brands. But these shifters are perfect to operate a 7-Speed derailleur, as it is easy to use.

The iBike 7 Speed which I test rode came in a bright yellow frame. This yellow frame comes with black graphics for the logos and branding. The rounded tubes were uniform and welded smoothly on the edges. The gloss paint job was excellent in quality and definitely stands out in a crowd.

Like its Single Speed variant the iBike 7 Speed also has SYPO V-brakes at the front and rear. These brakes worked well during the test ride on both smooth and rough urban roads. Jamming the braking aren’t the fastest to react but it did feel balanced when braking at corners. The alloy brake levers were basic and easy to use.The 58mm steel handlebar was easy to steer through traffic and also gave a comfortable ride posture.

This city bicycle rolls on a pair of Acer Golden 26” x 1.95” tires. These tires are MTB like but not as heavily treaded but have a fast rolling resistance. The strong rims and good amount of treading helps provide enough traction on all kinds of urban roads. The stock Mach City Saddle is not the most ergonomic but provides enough cushioning to keep you pain free when riding around in the city. The overall ride quality was comfortable on urban roads.
