Known for producing bicycles that deliver in terms of style, comfort and impressive performance, Convolution, a brand that has recently entered the Indian markets has generated a great deal of interest around their bikes. The brand is Tech Driven and specialises in lighter bicycles and performance driven geometry. We got the opportunity to check out their Road Bicycle the Convolution Aspera (105). Read on to know more about this bicycle.
Weight: 8.6kgs
Usage: Racing/Fitness
The Convolution Aspera (105) has been made using an Alloy 6061 hydroformed frame. The high quality of the welding is evident from the visible smooth edges on the frame. The frame geometry makes it an ideal Enduro-Road bicycle for medium distance to long distance riders. The ergonomically designed frame geometry allows a perfect combination of an aggressive riding position while ensuring comfort. The aggressiveness enhances the overall performance, while ensuring aero benefits. The frame has mounted on it, two water bottle holders. This bicycle is available in five sizing options – Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.
The Convolution Aspera (105) comes with a RCRP Tech Carbon Bladed fork and a specially designed seat stay, to absorb vibrations during the ride. Additionally, the fork design coupled with the unique seat stay welds ensures that the frame remains stiff while also absorbing a good amount of the feedback from the road, without transferring it to the rider. It also helps in optimal power transfer and directional focus.
In terms of high performance, well designed bicycles - Convolution has it all in the bag! The Convolution Aspera (105) is a super stylish road bicycle that is available in three colour options – Red, Silver and Blue. The ‘Aspera’ is branded in a classic font that adds to the overall aesthetic appeal of the bicycle. The branding on the bicycle has been kept to the bare minimum, which goes with the overall classy look of the bicycle.
The Convolution Aspera (105) comes with unarguably, one of the best drivetrain componentry. namely, a complete Shimano 105 group set. Shimano 105 is synonymous with efficiency and precision. This 22-Speed bicycle provides a range of gearing options for a long-distance rider. The shifting was seamless, and the derailleurs worked effortlessly in making the ride quality superior, leaving absolutely no room for complaints. The placement of the shifters was easily accessible from the main frame handlebar.
The Convolution Aspera (105) comes equipped with Tektro V-Brakes. I feel that this is perhaps the only point where I could see any room for critique. While the braking was responsive and efficient, I feel a slight added stopping power would have taken this bicycle to a whole new level. This especially when there is a requirement for abrupt stopping rather than feathered stopping.
When it comes to the handlebar, I feel that the width of the handlebar was perfectly in line with my shoulders, enabling a controlled and efficient riding position. Accessing the drop bars was a breeze, without feeling overly stretched-out or uncomfortably aggressive.
The Convolution Aspera (105) comes equipped with a pair of Maxxis Refuse 700x28C tires which are attached to Reynolds Rims. The tires are fast rolling and wide enough for a perfect speed-balance ratio. However, thinner/ sleeker tires could be a considerable upgrade for fast paced training rides or races.
The stock Saddle that comes on this bicycle was on the harder side and caused slight discomfort to the sit bones when tested on a long ride. Though, this is something that a good pair of cycling shorts can help overcome.
The Convolution Aspera (105) is priced at Rs. 89,550 (as on 21st January 2020) and is an ideal bicycle for performance oriented long-distance riding, regular weekend rides out of the city, racing and regular fast paced training rides.
Prices and Specifications/Components are subject to change by the brand, without due notice.
