EMotorad EMX: ChooseMyBicycle.com Expert Review

The Emotorad EMX is built on a full Alloy frame. This frame is performance focused with a built-in rear suspension and a detachable battery slot. The frame geometry was standard with a downward slanting top tube which gives the rider that extra bit of standover clearance. The overall shape of the frame helped with having an upright posture which was perfect for fitness rides and commutes.

The front suspension fork comes with a 100mm travel and the rear suspension in the middle of the frame makes it ideal to tackle any terrain with ease. The suspension lock-out feature on this E-bicycle helped in riding faster on flatter surfaces.

The EMX which I test rode came in a full Black primary colour on the frame with Yellow as the secondary colour for the graphics. The front suspension fork was Black in colour which was in good contrast to the Yellow. The gloss finish paint job was of great quality with a shiny finish to it. The detachable battery and the rear suspension were both great as a design feature on the EMX. The front white LED light looked stylish and is a good safety addition on this E-Bicycle.

This Electric Bicycle comes with a 3x7-Speed drivetrain with Shimano Tourney front and rear derailleurs. Whilst it is not a compulsion to have gears on an Electric Bicycle, it does come of use when wanting to match the electric speed of the E-Bicycle with the pedaling cadence. It also helps when you run out of battery power during a ride as the gears help in controlling the pressure you want to put into pedalling. The 21-Speed Shimano Tourney derailleurs were smooth in shifting during the test ride. This gearing is controlled by Shimano’s SIS 3 and 7-Speed shifters.

The EMotorad EMX runs on a rear hub BLDC 36V 250W rear hub motor. This motor is powered by a 10.4 Ah Lithium-Ion battery. This battery is detachable and sits on the bottom tube which makes it easy to install and remove. The throttle on the right grip was easy to use and also brought out the fun factor on this E-bicycle. The 5 level pedal assist gave five different levels of power assist from the battery for each pedal. The switch controller on the left side of the handlebar bar has the buttons to control the display. The maximum speed using the battery power is 25Km/hr. As a safety feature there is a button next to the right hand side grip accelerator which is to operate the in-built horn on this Electric Bicycle.

With 1 full charge, this battery is capable of giving up to 35-40kms in throttle mode and 50-55kms in pedal assist mode. These mileages might differ with the varied riding conditions, and rider weight. This battery takes 4 to 5 hours to charge from 0 to 100% in any normal Indian plug point.

This Electric Bicycle’s stopping power is controlled by Mechanical Disc brake at the front and rear. The Disc brakes were powerful enough to get the E-Bicycle to a stop safely and quickly even at 20-25 km/hr.

The Alloy handlebar on this E-Bicycle along with Alloy stem made it perfect for the rider to get into a comfortable riding posture. The grip throttle on the right was smooth and easy to operate.

The 27.5” x 1.95” CST tires on the EMotorad EMX were fast rolling on both smooth and rough urban roads and were perfectly suited for an Electric Bicycle when riding at 25km/hr. The width and treads were perfect to give good traction on rough roads.

The stock saddle on the EMX is comfort focused with enough cushioning to ensure the rider does not experience any soreness from the saddle even on bumpy roads.
