EMotorad (EM) is a new entrant electric bicycle brand that strives to bring futuristic e-bikes at an affordable price for adventure seekers, daily commuters and casual riders. We got the opportunity to test ride the EMotorad T-Rex, their Hardtail Electric MTB and here is what we thought.
Weight: 22.3kgs
Usage: Fitness/Commute/Leisure
The T-Rex comes with a full Alloy frame. At the first glance and the first few pedals you will get to experience the contribution of the frame towards the speed and acceleration of this Electric Bicycle. This Alloy frame is strong and welded smoothly and is capable of taking a lot of hard hitting on tarmacs and trail surfaces. The frame build has been done keeping in mind the battery pack and thus keeping the weight distribution on point. This E-bicycle comes in a single frame size.
The front suspension fork was more than sufficient with a 100mm travel to handle those bumps and potholes in the city. The lock-out feature makes it easier to ride on flatter surfaces on urban roads.
The T-Rex which I test rode came in a full White primary colour on the frame with Blue and Red as the secondary colours for the graphics. The front suspension fork was Black in colour which was in good contrast to the White primary colour. The matte finish paint job was of great quality with a smooth premium finish to it. The detachable battery and the internal cable routing were both great as design features on the T-Rex. The front white LED light looked stylish and is a useful safety addition on this E-Bicycle.
This Electric Bicycle comes with a 1x7-Speed drivetrain with a Shimano Tourney rear derailleur. Whilst it is not a compulsion to have gears on an Electric Bicycle, it does come of use when wanting match the electric speed of the E-Bicycle with the pedalling cadence. It also helps when you run out of battery power during a ride as the gears help in controlling the pressure you want to put into pedalling. The 7-Speed Shimano Tourney derailleur was smooth in shifting during the test ride. The gearing is controlled by Shimano’s SIS 7-Speed shifter.
The EMotorad T-Rex Electric Bicycle runs on a rear hub BLDC 36V 250W rear hub motor. This motor is powered by a 7.5 Ah Lithium-Ion battery. This battery is detachable and sits on the bottom tube which makes it easy to install and remove. The throttle on the right grip was easy to use and also brought out the fun factor of this E-bicycle. The 5 level pedal assist gave five different levels of power assist from the battery for each pedal. The switch controller on the left side of the handlebar bar has the buttons to control the display. The maximum speed using battery power is 25km/hr. As a safety feature there is a button next to the right hand side grip accelerator which is to operate the in-built horn on this electric bicycle.
With 1 full charge in this battery is capable of giving up to 25-35kms in throttle mode and 40-50kms on pedal assist mode. These mileages might differ with the varied riding conditions, and rider weight. This battery takes 3-4 hours to charge from 0 to 100% with any normal Indian plug point. The charging point is on the battery pack itself and is easy to charge as this is a detachable battery.
This Electric Bicycle’s stopping power is controlled by Speed branded Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. Both these brake were powerful enough to get the bicycle to stop safely and quickly at 20-25km/hr.
The 630mm alloy handlebar on this E-Bicycle along with an alloy stem, made it perfect for the rider to get into a comfortable riding posture. The grip throttle on the right was smooth and easy to accelerate.
The 26” x 2.0” Choayang tires on the EMotorad T-Rex were fast rolling on both smooth and rough urban roads and were perfectly suited for an Electric Bicycle when riding at 25km/hr. The width and treads were perfect to give good traction on rough roads.
The stock saddle on the T-Rex is completely focused on comfort with enough cushioning, ensuring the rider does not experience any soreness from the saddle even on bumpy roads.
This Alloy hardtail frame is stylish in design with its detachable battery provision. The 7.5Ah battery ensures extended range and the throttle adds the fun quotient of this E-Bicycle riding experience. The powerful Mechanical Disc brakes and Chaoyang 26” tires makes it both safe and comfortable to ride at high speeds. Priced at Rs.38,990(as on 29th October 2021), the EMotorad T-Rex is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a performance focused Electric MTB bicycle with a detachable battery.
