Firefox’s strength has always been their MTB’s. The good mix of performance, comfort and design, all at an affordable price range has made the MTB series of bicycles from Firefox a big hit. 29er MTB are the top most in performance in MTBs and one such Bicycle is the newly launched Firefox Bobber 29 D. We got the opportunity to test ride this MTB and here is what we thought.
Weight: 15.3 kgs
Usage: Trail / Leisure
The hardtail Alloy frame on the Bobber 29 D comes with a triangular top tube and a rounded bottom tube. The top tube is slightly slanting and makes the rider position comfortable. The chunky bottom tube can take in quite a bit of vibration of the surface. The neatly curving bottom tube which connects to the top tube at the head tube area, makes for equal weight distribution on the frame when riding.
The SR Suntour front suspension fork worked well during the test ride on trails and the 80mm travel was sufficient to tackle the bumps.
The Bicycle which I test rode came in a full Red frame with Black graphics. The gloss finish paint job was top notch which makes the frame look smooth and shiny. This frame’s tubes are designed in a way to look sleek and this enhances the aesthetics of the frame. The full pitch Black suspension fork go well with the bright Red frame. The quick release on the front wheel, rear wheel, seat post and the centre mounted stand are very useful design features for the rider.
The gearing on the Firefox Bobber 29 D is taken care of by a 3-Speed Shimano Tourney at the front and 7-Speed Shimano Acera at the rear. This mix and match combination of Shimano derailleurs gives good performance and is ideal for quick shifting on inclines and for acceleration. During the test tide the derailleurs worked smoothly with very less noise. The Shimano EF500 21-Speed Alloy shifters were easy to operate.
As in the name of this Bicycle, the Bobber 29 D comes equipped with Tektro’s Aries Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. The brakes were powerful and balanced during the test ride and made them ideal for trails and rough urban roads.
The 660mm Alloy handlebar was lengthy, giving the rider full control of the bicycle and the 15mm raise making the posture comfortable.
The Bobber 29 D as the name suggests rolls on a pair of 29” x 2.20” Kenda tires. These tires with the heavy rubber treading gives better traction of the surface and also faster rolling speeds over rocks and mud on the trails. The double walled alloy rims significantly contribute towards keeping the wheelset stronger and in turn making the wheels withstand a lot of hard hitting.
The stock Firefox Saddle was the perfect mix of ergonomics and cushioning, making it comfortable during Trail rides.
29ers are meant for trails and this hardtail MTB with 29” tires do roll over the rough surfaces fast while being comfortable for the rider. The Tourney/Acera 21-Speed gearing and the Tektro Mechanical Disc brakes make it ideal for moderate trails. The Firefox Bobber 29 D priced at Rs.28,000(as on 7th October 2020) is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a 29er MTB for moderate trail rides and urban commuting on rough roads.
