Firefox is an Indian performance bicycle brand with a wide range of bicycles and accessories. The majority of their bicycles and accessories are urban specific and are built for comfort. We got an opportunity to review the RD 4 Head Protector Helmet from Firefox and here’s what we thought.
The Firefox RD 4 helmet impresses at first sight with its sleek matte back finish and sporty aesthetics and graphics that give it a high-mod, urban look. The helmet is made out of strong and super-light EPS material with a polycarbonate plastic shell on top for added protection. It has multiple optimized air vents on top and on the side to facilitate airflow, and features a soft and grippy chinstrap that locks into place with a buckle. The inner side of the helmet is well padded for maximum comfort and sweat absorption.
The Matte black color scheme is one of the best assets of the RD 4 helmet, and the designers at Firefox have absolutely nailed this, making the helmet visually very appealing. The sporty urban look is enhanced by the sleek yellow highlights, and the removable visor that can be attached to give an MTB feel, and can be removed to make the helmet look more road oriented. The ergonomically placed air vents help the rider feel airy and ventilated while riding, and they also have a bug net to prevent flies, mosquitoes and other small insects from creeping in through the air vents.
The helmet fits comfortably on the head and can be easily adjusted with a dial-like knob situated at the back of the helmet. The knob can be tightened to give a more secure fit. The nylon chinstraps feel soft against the skin, and are of adjustable length. They fasten together with a clip type buckle, which is now the standard issue in most Road bike and MTB helmets. The helmet comes in two sizes, namely size M to fit a head circumference of 53-58 cm and size L to fit a head circumference of 58-62 cm.
Overall Rating
Stylish, trendy, strong and sturdy, the Firefox RD 4 Head Protector helmet seems to be one of the best buys in its category with a very competitive price tag of just Rs.1670 (as on 20th February 2019). This is a must buy if you are city commuter or a recreational cyclist, who also does longer rides on the weekends.
