Firefox is an Indian Bicycle brand who have been around for a long time now. Firefox has a wide range of hardtail MTB’s and we got the opportunity to test ride the Firefox Recaro 29D and here is what we thought.
Weight: 16.2 kgs
Usage: Fitness/Trail
The Firefox Recaro 29D is a Hardtail MTB. This frame is built fully using Alloy. This frame comes with a slanting top tube which made it easy to get on and off the Bicycle and also safer for the rider on bumpy rides with that extra standover clearance. The frame geometry ensured the rider was upright with relaxed shoulder and wrist positions for a pain free ride. Being a hardtail the Recaro comes with a stock front suspension fork with 80mm travel and a mechanical lock-out which helps in better acceleration on flatter surfaces.
This bicycle which I test rode came in a full Black primary colour with Yellow and Blue as the secondary colours for the graphics and text. The graphics were bold with contrasting colours which made the Bicycle look bright. The matte finish paint job was smooth and the tube welds were perfectly molded.
Firefox have started using Microshift components on some of their newly released Bicycle models. Microshift as a brand is on par with Shimano in terms of performance and quality. The Recaro 29D comes equipped with a 7-Speed Microshift Mezzo RD-M21 rear derailleur along with Microshift Mezzo FD-M20 3-Speed front derailleur. The Microshift drivetrain on this Bicycle was both quick and smooth in shifting with no lag experienced during the test ride. The 21-Speed gearing system is controlled by Microshift’s TS38 trigger shifters.
The stopping power on this 29” Hardtail MTB is taken care of by a pair of Clarks branded Mechanical Disc brakes. These brakes were of good quality with rotors and the disc plates which were powerful in stopping amidst traffic and even on flat muddy surfaces.
The 660mm MTB handlebar with a 20mm raise was wide and gave optimum control for the rider when riding through fast paced flat trails and also when maneuvering through sharp turns.
The Firefox Recaro 29D comes with Ralson 29” x 2.10” MTB tires. These tires have bulky treads and a uniform tread pattern which provided great traction on trails and flat muddy surfaces. This wheelset was ideal for faster rolling resistance as well as being balanced on flat trails.
The stock Saddle from Firefox wasn’t the most ergonomic in design but had enough cushioning for a soreness free ride.
This Alloy Hardtail MTB was comfortable to ride thanks to its frame geometry and the wide 660mm handlebar. The powerful Mechanical Disc brakes and 80mm front suspension with lock-out made it easy to ride and stop on muddy trails and wet urban roads. The 29” Ralson tires were heavily treaded and fast rolling as well. The 21-Speed Microshift drivetrain was smooth in shifting and definitely on par with Shimano. Priced at Rs.24,500(as on 31st March 2021) the Firefox Recaro 29D is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy an MTB for both trails and riding on rough urban roads.
