Format is a Russian brand that is gaining popularity in the Indian market for well performing bicycles at a great price point, that is well suited to cyclists across all age groups. We got to review the Format SIN11 a Hybrid Bicycle, read on to find out what we thought about this entry-level 21-Speed Hybrid Bicycle.
The Format SIN11 has been made using a 6061-alloy frame. The ergonomically designed frame allows for a comfortable, and upright riding position with a slight hint of aggression. This makes for a great combination of comfort and agility, while being easy to ride on urban roads. The smooth welding makes sure that the frame is strong while not using any excess material.
This bicycle has a Hi-Tensile steel rigid fork. Being made of steel, the front of the bicycle will be slightly heavier. However, the usage of steel is a merit in terms of being able to withstand potholes or rugged roads without damaging the frame. The frame of the bicycle houses a single mounting option for a water bottle cage. This bicycle is available in a single frame size option – 18”.
Bright, eye-catching and a total standout – a few thoughts that come to mind to describe the Format SIN11. When it comes to the design department, this bicycle makes a bold statement. The use of bright colours on the frame is refreshing. This bicycle is sure to grab the attention of others while on the road. The bicycle we tested had a yellow frame with black decals and branding. The paint finish on the bicycle was of high quality. The minimal branding added to the aesthetics of the bicycle. This bicycle is available in two colour options – Yellow/Black and Orange/Black.
The Format SIN11 is a 21-Speed bicycle that comes equipped with a Shimano Tourney Front Derailleur and a Shimano Altus Rear Derailleur. A Tourney-Altus combination on an entry-level hybrid is commendable. The shifting is controlled by Shimano EF500 shifters. When on the test ride, the shifting was smooth and efficient with no evident lags. The shifters were well placed and easy to access and use, requiring just a little effort to shift between gears.
The Format SIN11 comes equipped with mechanical disc brakes at the front and rear that offer powerful braking. Feathered braking felt controlled and strong. However, I feel that abrupt braking required slightly more power. Additionally, extra stopping power might be required while on wet and slippery surfaces.
The Format SIN11 comes equipped with a Format Steel flat handlebar. The width of this handlebar ensures a comfortable, open chested, upright riding position. Additionally, it allows for superior control and maneuverability in crowded riding conditions. The handlebar grips felt to be slightly on the harder side, while on the test ride.
The Format SIN11 comes equipped with a pair of Chaoyang H5129 700x35c tires which are attached to Format AL 6061 Rims. The wheelset was lightweight and fast rolling. The 700C tires are capable of handling city/urban roads with ease while not being bulky. Additionally, these tires will be able to handle wet surfaces well.
The saddle on this bicycle was well-cushioned and wide enough to comfortably accommodate one’s sit bones. Additionally, the seat post has a quick release option, making adjusting the height of the saddle easier on the go. The overall ride quality was smooth and favourable.
