Format, a Russian brand that is gaining popularity in the Indian market for well performing bicycles at a great price point, that is well suited to cyclists across all age groups. We got to review the Format SIN21, and here is what we thought about this 21-Speed Bicycle.
The Format SIN21 has been made using a 6061-alloy frame. The ergonomically designed frame allows for a comfortable, and upright riding position with a slight hint of aggression. This makes for a great combination of comfort and agility, while being easy to ride on urban roads. The smooth welding makes sure that the frame is strong while not using any excess material.
This bicycle has a front suspension fork with lockout. The suspension works well to absorb shocks felt from rugged roads, or urban roads with potholes. Additionally, the lockout option allows for the suspension to be locked when riding on flat, smooth roads. The frame of the bicycle houses a single mounting option for a water bottle cage. This bicycle is available in a single frame size option – 18”.
Bright, Eye-catching and a total standout – a few thoughts that come to mind to describe the design of the Format SIN21. When it comes to the design department, this bicycle makes a bold statement. The usage of bright colours on the frame is refreshing. This bicycle is sure to grab attention while on the road. The bicycle we tested had a red frame with bright yellow and blue decals and branding. The paint finish on the bicycle was of high quality. The minimal branding added to the aesthetics of the bicycle. This bicycle is available in two colour options – Red/Yellow and Yellow/Blue.
The Format SIN21 is a 21-Speed bicycle that comes equipped with a Shimano Tourney Front Derailleur and a Shimano Altus Rear Derailleur. A Tourney-Altus combination on an entry-level hybrid is commendable. Shimano EF-500 shifters control the shifting. When on the test ride, the shifting was smooth and efficient with no evident lags. The shifters were well placed and easy to access and use, requiring just a little effort to shift between gears.
The Format SIN21 comes equipped with Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear that offer powerful braking. Feathered braking felt controlled and strong. However, I feel that abrupt braking required slightly more power. Additionally, extra stopping power would be required while on wet and slippery surfaces.
The Format SIN21 comes equipped with a Format Steel flat handlebar. The width of this handlebar ensures a comfortable, open chested, upright riding position. Additionally, it allows for superior control and maneuverability in crowded riding conditions. The handlebar grips felt to be slightly on the harder side, while on the test ride.
The Format SIN21 comes equipped with a pair of Chaoyang H5129 700x35c tires which are attached to Format AL 6061 Rims. The wheelset is lightweight and fast rolling. The 700C tires are capable of handling city/urban roads with ease while not being bulky. Additionally, these tires will be able to handle wet surfaces well.
The saddle on this bicycle was well-cushioned and wide enough to comfortably accommodate one’s sit bones. Additionally, the seat post has a quick release option, making adjusting the height of the saddle easier on the go. The overall ride quality was smooth and favorable.
