Frog is an Indian Bicycle brand. Their range includes MTB and City bicycles for Men, Women and Children. This fairly new entrant to the Indian Bicycle market has come out with an extensive range with numerous designs and colours. We got the opportunity to test ride the Frog Plus Defeatr and here is what we thought.
Weight: 17.4 kgs
Usage: Leisure/Fitness
The Frog Plus Defeatr is built around a Hardtail Hi-Ten Steel frame. While Steel is known to be heavy, this Bicycle had a good distribution of weight which was evident when riding on both flats and inclines. The geometry was standard and comfort focused with a slanting top tube.
We can say this Bicycle is Urban focused and not a full-fledged trail friendly Bicycle by the functioning of the telescopic suspension fork. The suspension on this Bicycle has a minimal working travel which is just sufficient for bumps, potholes and unpaved surfaces.
The Defeatr from Frog which I test rode came with Grey as the primary colour and Orange as the secondary colour for the graphics and text. The Grey/Orange saddle with Defeatr text is definitely eye catching. The matte finish paint job was top notch in quality. The heavily treaded tires and slanting top tube gives it a rugged MTB look.
The Defeatr comes equipped with a single-speed drivetrain. The pedalling was easy on flat and rough surfaces. It is a bit of a struggle to pedal on inclines which will require extra effort. The positives of a single-speed drivetrain is that it is easy to maintain and simple to ride.
This Urban MTB’s stopping power is handled by a pair of Purk Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. These brakes were powerful, safe and balanced on rough and smooth roads. Both interval and jamming of brakes felt in control when used during the test ride.
The riser handlebar on this bicycle was both comfortable and wide enough to give the rider an open chested riding posture.
The 29” x 2.20” DSI branded MTB tires on the Frog Plus Defeatr was heavily treaded to generate a lot of traction on rough surfaces. While the 29” circumference handles the efficient riding over rough surfaces the 2.20” width make sure the bicycle is stable and balanced on wet and muddy surfaces.
The stock saddle had enough cushioning to keep the rider comfortable on bumpy rides.
This is an Urban MTB with aesthetic matte finish colour and design. The 29” x 2.20” tires and Mechanical Disc brakes make sure the bicycle can handle fast rides on rough surfaces. While the bicycle comes in a standard 17” frame size, the riding posture was comfortable. Priced at Rs.11,299(as on 11th May 2020) the Frog Plus Plus Defeatr is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a bicycle for leisure rides rough roads and flat trails.
