The Taiwanese manufacturer Giant is one of the World’s leading Bicycle manufacturers. They have bicycles for the professionals to the amateur rider. Having great technology and design capability in every Bicycle they make, brings out top notch quality in all aspects. We got the opportunity to test ride the Giant ATX 27.5 (2021) and here is what we thought.
Weight: 15.5 kgs
Usage: Trail/Fitness
The Giant ATX 27.5 (2021) is the perfect entry into the world of mountain biking, providing a fantastic build that will allow you to enjoy getting into off-road riding. It has a hardtail frame, built from Giant’s proprietary ALUXX alloy; making sure it balances weight and strength for longevity and easy handling. Unique at this price-point, the Giant ATX 27.5 (2021) has features that set it apart from the competition, like the internal cable routing. This keeps the cables nestled inside the frame, free from grit and dirt, thus prolonging the life of the cables and performance of the braking and shifting.
To take on light trails and forest paths, a suspension fork will make a big difference, so that’s why you see an SR Suntour 75mm suspension fork on the Giant ATX 27.5 (2021). This suspension not only provided extra comfort when the trails and surfaces get rough, but their greatest use is extra control, helping you ride to your potential and handle more challenging terrain.
When it comes to design, Giant always comes up with new colours and graphics every year. The Giant ATX 27.5 (2021) comes in 2 vibrant colour options. The one which we got to test ride came with a full Blue frame with a contrasting Black as the secondary colour for the graphics.
The ATX 27.5 (2021) gets a 3x7-Speed Shimano Tourney drivetrain, with three gears in front and seven in the back, giving you the capabilities to climb steep inclines and go fast in the City. This 21-Speed gear system is controlled by Shimano's trigger shifters. During the test ride the gears felt smooth to shift with no lag.
The Power branded V-brakes handle the stopping power on this Bicycle. Whilst many might think that Disc brakes are far more superior to V-brakes, a good pair of V-brakes like the ones on the ATX (2021) is definitely on par with any entry-level Mechanical Disc brake.
Giant is known for their in house componentry and one such component is the handlebar. The Giant Sport handlebar is lengthy with a slight rise from the middle. This is a perfect MTB handlebar with a comfortable and open chested riding posture giving the rider good control over the Bicycle during fast paced trail rides.
Tire selection can make a big difference to how the Bicycle rides, and this Giant bicycle knows what it’s meant to do as a versatile MTB. The Giant Quickcross tires measure 27.5" x 2.2” in size and combined with the shallow tread pattern, makes them quick rolling, while delivering solid grip on paved paths and light trails. These are great tires for both road and off-road use.
The stock Giant Sport custom saddle has been designed specifically for MTB’s. The shape and width of the saddle was comfortable to keep the rider seated safe without any soreness and slips.
This is a hardtail MTB with a lightweight and strong Alloy frame which is comfortable to ride. Performance focused components like the Suntour suspension fork and 21-Speed drivetrain make this bicycle ready for fast paced rides on flat trails and rough urban roads. The 27.5” Giant Quickcross tires were fast rolling and made this bicycle ride efficiently on wet and muddy surfaces. Priced at Rs.33,999(as on 7th January 2021) the Giant ATX 27.5 (2021) is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy an MTB for riding on both urban roads and flat trails.
