The Taiwanese manufacturer Giant is one of world’s leading Bicycle manufacturers. They have Bicycles right from professionals to amateur riders. Having great technology and design capability in every Bicycle they make brings out top notch quality in all aspects. We got the opportunity to test ride the Giant Roam 4 Disc (2021) and here is what we thought.
Weight: 14.2kgs
Usage: Fitness/Commute
The frame of the Giant Roam 4 Disc (2021) is made with an ALUXX grade Aluminum material. The frame looks solid and also feels confident when riding over bumpy roads during the test ride. The frame tubes are neither flat nor cylindrical. It is flat on the top but rounds up as it goes to the bottom for all the tubes. This has made sure the weight of the Bicycle is kept in check, which is what is needed for an Urban Bicycle. The ALUXX Aluminum is optimized for strength-to-weight ratio with single butting resulting in light weight without sacrificing strength.

When it comes to design, Giant is always experimenting with new colour shades and designs on their Bicycles every year. The Roam series has been one of Giant’s most successful Urban Bicycle series and the main selling point for the Roam has been the aesthetic appearance. The 2021 Roam 4 Disc which I test rode came in a full pitch Black primary colour on the frame with Red as the secondary colour for graphics.
The gearing in the Roam 4 Disc (2021) is handled by a combination of Shimano Tourney 3-Speed at the front and Shimano Altus 7-Speed at the rear. Combining 2 different levels of gearing have increasingly become popular amongst international brands, especially in their entry level Bicycles. The Shimano Tourney derailleur is an entry-level gear in Shimano’s family but when it is in use with the Altus at the rear the balance and smoothness in the gearing is perfect. The Shimano Altus 21-Speed gear shifters were easy to use.
The stopping power in the Roam 4 Disc (2021) is taken care of by a powerful Tektro Hydraulic Disc brakes at the front and back with 160mm rotors. The Tektro disc brakes were balanced and safe to engage even at high speeds during the test ride.
Giant is known for their in-house componentry used in a majority of their Bicycles. One such component is the handlebar, the Giant Sport XC low rise handlebar is lengthy with a very slight rise. This resembles an MTB handlebar which means a comfortable and open chested riding posture giving much better control over the Bicycle to maneuver in traffic.
The Giant Crosscut has become a popular in-house tire brand which impressed during the test ride. The 700x42C tires were a good mix of Hybrid and MTB tire characteristics. The sleek design combined with solid tread patterns make sure the tires are roll fast and are also safe during fast turns. The Anti-Puncture tires gives you an extra layer of added protection from the smaller punctures during your ride.
The Giant Sport Comfort upright saddle resembles a road bicycles saddle. Sleek and wide with a perfect shape for the sit bones to be placed. There is enough cushioning at the right places to be sore free.
This Hybrid Bicycle has a comfortable riding posture and an alloy frame which is lightweight and strong. The front suspension fork made the ride smoother on rough surfaces. The Tektro Hydraulic Disc brakes were powerful enough for quick stops in dry and wet conditions. Priced at Rs.43,999(as on 26th November 2021) the Giant Roam 4 Disc (2021) is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a Hybrid Bicycle for fitness rides, commutes and even occasional touring.
