The Taiwanese manufacturer Giant is one of World’s leading Bicycle manufacturer. They have Bicycles right from the Professionals to the Amateur riders. Having great technology and design capability in every Bicycle they make, brings out top notch quality in all aspects. We got the opportunity to test ride the Giant Talon 2 (2021) and here is what we thought.
Weight: 14.1 kgs
Usage: Trail/Fitness
The Talon 2 (2021) comes with a Giant’s exclusive ALUXX grade Aluminium frame. The Hardtail frame has a slanting top tube, which provided an aggressive position yet supreme control on trails. Both the top tube and bottom tubes aren’t circular, they are flat which makes the tubes sleek and keeps the weight in check.
During the test ride the Suntour XC30 front suspension fork with its 100mm travel worked well both on harsh urban roads and rough trails. The Suspension lockout was a useful feature for efficient riding on smooth and flat surfaces.
The Talon 2 (2021) which I test rode came in a Clay Red primary colour on the frame with Black as the secondary colour for graphics. The gloss finish paint job definitely enhanced the colour schemes to make it look shiny. The internal cable routing made the bicycle look neat and the colour coordinated rims and fork made it look aesthetic.
The gearing in the Talon 2 (2021) is handled by a Shimano Altus 2-Speed at the front and Shimano Acera 8-Speed at the rear. Having only 2 gears at the front is becoming common as this ensures faster gear shifts with a tight combination and still provides enough power to get up to speed. The Shimano 16-Speed rapid gear shifters were easy to use.
The stopping power in the Talon 2 (2021) is taken care of by powerful Tektro TKD 143 Hydraulic Disc brakes at the front and back. These disc brakes are powerful and balanced which felt safe to engage even at high speeds during the test ride.
Giant is known for their in house componentry and the handlebar is one of them. The Giant Connect trail handlebar is lengthy with a very slight rise from the middle. This is a perfect MTB handlebar which means a comfortable and open chested riding posture giving great control over the bicycle during fast paced trail rides.
The Maxxis branded Ardent Race MTB tires impressed us during the test ride. The 27.5”x 2.20” tires were heavily treaded with bulky buttons and covered the edges as well. These tires were fast rolling on flatter surfaces and could handle rough patches with ease. The Giant Sport Custom saddle was wide with enough cushioning.
This is a Hardtail MTB with a lightweight and strong Alloy frame which is comfortable to ride. Performance focused components like the Tektro Hydraulic Disc brakes make this bicycle ready for fast paced rides on rough trails. The 27.5” Maxxis tires were fast rolling and the smoothly working 100mm front suspension fork make this Bicycle ride efficiently on rough and flat surfaces. Priced at Rs.54,999 (as on 9th January 2021) the Giant Talon 2 (2021) is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy an MTB for fast paced rides trail rides and occasional rides on rough urban roads.
