GT is an American bicycle brand with its expertise in manufacturing performance MTB’s. They have a wide range of MTB models which are built for varied trail needs. We got the opportunity to test ride the GT Avalanche Comp 27.5 (2019) and here is what we thought.
Weight: 15.2 kgs
Usage: Trail/Leisure
The GT Avalanche Comp 27.5 2019 is built on a T6 Aluminium hardtail frame. This frame has GT’s patented triple triangle design geometry. The geometry also is for an even weight distribution and also helps absorb vibrations of the trail which in turn gives the rider a comfortable riding experience.
The SR Suntour XCM-DS front suspension fork comes with a massive 100mm travel. This suspension fork worked smoothly and the manual Hydraulic suspension lockout helped making the fork rigid and hence helps ride faster on flatter surfaces.
The Avalanche Comp 27.5 (2019) which I test rode came in a full Red frame with Black as the secondary colour for text and graphics. The gloss paint job was of great quality. The triple triangle frame design was neat and elegant with thin tubing with smoothly welded edges.
This hardtail MTB is equipped with a 2x9-Speed Shimano Deore at the rear and Shimano Alivio at the front as the derailleurs drivetrain. This drivetrain is performance focused and shifts smoothly. The Shimano Alivio Rapid Fire 18-Speed shifters were easy to use with swift spring action.
The Shimano Hydraulic Disc brakes were powerful, reactive and balanced to use during the test ride. These brakes are ideal for fast trail rides and the brake levers needed only 2-3 fingers to engage them.
The All-Terra MTB Alloy handlebar was 720mm wide and this made sure the rider was open chested and hence having total control over the Bicycle.
The Avalanche Comp 27.5 (2019) rolls on a pair of 27.5” x 2.25” WTB Transition tires. These tires were heavily treaded with bulky buttons which were evenly spread. The 27.5” circumference made sure the tires could roll fast and also tackle obstacles on trails with ease.
The All Terra MTB specific saddle was ergonomically designed to make sure the rider’s sit bones are perfectly placed on the widest points of the saddle.
This hardtail MTB is strong yet lightweight with a simple frame geometry which makes it easy for climbs. The 100mm suspension fork and Hydraulic lockout made the ride smoother and comfortable. The Hydraulic Disc brakes were powerful on both wet and dry trails. The 27.5” tires were heavily treaded as well, making it ideal for the roughest of trails. Priced at Rs.45,385 (as on 12th March 2020) the GT Avalanche Comp 27.5 (2019) is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy an MTB for trail riding.
