This dual-suspension frame geometry is ideal for a comfortable riding posture.
The front suspension fork is minimal in travel and smoothness which was only useful when riding over potholes and speed breakers.
The speed combination of the CX 70 is also not the usual combination.
Sypo branded V-Brakes provided smooth and safe braking power.
The stock 26” x 1.95” are well treaded and fast rolling on urban roads.
Hercules is one of the pioneer brands in the bicycle industry and every kid, teenager and adult in India would have come across this brand name. The range of models they have is huge and there is a bicycle for every kind of rider. We got the opportunity to test ride the Hercules CX 70 and here is what we thought.
Weight: 20.1 kgs
Usage: Leisure/Commute
The Herucles CX 70 is built on a strong Steel frame. This dual-suspension frame geometry is ideal for a comfortable riding posture. The integrated carrier from the frame at the rear is strong and useful with a 30 kg weight bearing capacity. When it comes to steel along with the strength comes the heaviness and this frame weighed 20.1 kgs. This is heavy and difficulty is faced when one has to carry this cycle up the stairs or when riding on inclined roads and flyovers.
The front suspension fork is minimal in travel and smoothness which was only useful when riding over potholes and speed breakers. The rear suspension below the seat needed some weight on it or a bigger pothole or bump for it to function fully to its capacity.
The CX 70 from Hercules which I test rode came in a Gloss Black/Green dual colour frame with Black, Green, Blue and White used as secondary colours for graphics, logo and text. The split type bird handlebar was new and stylish. The Green shade on the tire treads added an aesthetic appeal to the bicycle. With front and rear mudguards, dual suspension and an integrated rear carrier, this bicycle looks fully equipped.
The Hercules CX 70 is equipped with an entry-level Shimano Tourney drivetrain. While the rear derailleur is an old type, the new derailleur is a fairly recent version of Tourney. The speed combination of the CX 70 is also not the usual combination we see these days. It comes with a 3-Speed at the front and 6-Speed at the rear. This 18- Speed gears are shifted using Revo Grip shifters that were easy to use.
A pair of Sypo branded V-Brakes controls this bicycle’s stopping power. These brakes were standard and were ideal for quick and safe stoppage on rough and smooth roads.
The split type handlebar design was unique and also made the grips come closer to the rider, hence making the riding posture comfortable. There was enough space to hold on to the grips even after the grip shifters.
The stock 26” x 1.95” tires were the perfect combination of fast rolling and good traction. These tires were balanced during the test ride when ridden on slightly muddy and also wet roads. The stock Hercules Saddle on the CX 70 was cushioned well to keep the rider sore free on bumpy rides in the city.
