The build and hydroformed welding made sure there is a perfect balance of lightweight and strength.
The Suntour XCM suspension fork was responsive during the test ride and absorbed most of the vibrations on the trail.
The Shimano Deore 2x10-Speed derailleurs were quick and smooth in transmission.

Hero Cycles is one of India’s leading bicycle brands and is also one of the World’s largest manufacturers of bicycles. Hero has Sprint, Sprint Pro and Octane as its sub-brands. We got the opportunity to test the Hero Octane Albatross 27.5 and here is what we thought.
Weight: 14.9 kgs
Usage: Trails
The Hero Octane Albatross 27.5 is currently the top most MTB in its line and is clearly performance focused for trail rides. The frame of this Hardtail MTB is built out of Alloy with a gradual slant in the top tube for safe stand over clearance. The build and hydroformed welding made sure there is a perfect balance of lightweight and strength. This was evident during the test ride when the frame responded well to bumps.
The Suntour XCM suspension fork was responsive during the test ride and absorbed most of the vibrations on the trail. This was possible because of its 100mm travel and an easy to use Hydraulic suspension lockout which immensely helped in making the ride faster on flatter surfaces.
This hardtail MTB that I test rode came in a full Black frame colour with Sky Blue as the secondary colour. The internal cable routing for the both derailleur and brake cables made the bicycle look neater and organized. The matte finish paint job was top notch in quality.
Shimano’s Deore MTB groupset on the Albatross 27.5 is well regarded for the quality of shifting across its rings. This may be Shimano’s best racing groupset option on a budget, but that hasn’t resulted in a lack of attention to detail, each chainring is constructed differently to balance use against weight and longevity. The 2x10, 20-Speed drivetrain has enough range for difficult climbs and for picking up speed as well. This groupset is complete with Deore rapid plus shifters which were easy and responsive to use.
The Shimano Hydraulic Disc brakes on the Albatross 27.5 were as powerful as it can get on a performance-focused hardtail MTB. During the test ride, these brakes were not just powerful but also balanced on wet trail surfaces as well. The brake levers required only 2 or 3 fingers to engage the brakes.
The 700mm Promax branded Alloy handlebar was lengthy and perfectly suited for fast trail rides. The grips weren’t the most suited in material for absorbing sweat.
The Hero Octane Albatross 27.5 rolls on a pair of Chaoyang 27.5" x 2.2" MTB tires. These hard compound heavily treaded tires were tough and can easily handle the rough trails and urban roads.
The WTB Volt saddle on this MTB is designed to make sure the rider is sore free even when he or she spends long hours on this saddle.
This MTB is built for trail rides, cross country rides, flat tracks and also leisure urban road riding. The 20-Speed Deore groupset along with Shimano Hydraulic Disc brakes make this bicycle a powerful MTB to ride. The internal cable routing on this bicycle save the cables from all the muck from the trails. Priced at Rs.47,900(as on 12th November 2019) the Hero Octane Albatross 27.5 is an ideal bicycle for anyone one looking to buy a performance MTB for trail rides and riding on the roughest of urban and rural roads.
