Things We Like

  • Strong yet lightweight hardtail Alloy frame with internal cable routing
  • Smooth shifting 24-Speed Altus/Acera derailleurs
  • Powerful JAK Hydraulic Disc brakes

Things We Don't Like

  • Hard handlebar grips which doesn’t absorb sweat easily
Hero Octane Gyrfalcon 29 Frame

The Hero Octane Gyrfalcon 29 is built on a full Alloy frame. The frame geometry was perfect for a MTB with a slanting top tube which gave more standover clearance and a comfortable riding posture. The frame is built in a way to make sure Alloy is used more in high impact joints like the top/bottom tube intersection and lesser in few others like the chain and seat stays. This made sure the frame is as light as it can get while retaining its tensile strength.

The Gyrfalcon 29 has a Suntour XCT Front Suspension fork with a 100mm travel and a useful manual type suspension lockout.

Hero Octane Gyrfalcon 29 Design

This hardtail MTB I test rode came in a full Black frame with Orange and Blue as the secondary colour for text and graphics. This shade of Orange looked bright and added a good contrast to the Black primary colour. The matte finish paint job along with the colour coded saddle and the internal gear cable routing enhanced the aesthetic appeal of this bicycle.

Hero Octane Gyrfalcon 29 Gearing

The Hero Octane Gyrfalcon 29 comes equipped with Shimano Altus M310 3-Speed at the front and Shimano Acera M360 8-Speed at the rear as derailleurs and shifted smoothly during the test ride which was ideal for quick shifts on rough trails. The 24-Speed Shimano Altus RapidFire trigger shifters were standard and easy to use. This is the same gear setup in the Gyrfalcon’s 27.5 variant as well.

Hero Octane Gyrfalcon 29 Brakes and Steering

The Jak branded Hydraulic Disc brakes handled the stopping power on the Hero Octane Gyrfalcon 29. Hydraulic disc brakes on a bicycle at this price are value for money and they were powerful enough to get the cycle to a stop quickly and in a balanced manner.

The 680mm stock Alloy handlebar came with a flat design which made is aggressive for fast trail rides.

Hero Octane Gyrfalcon 29 Wheels and Steering

The Hero Octane Gyrfalcon rolled on a pair of DSI 29” x 2.2” MTB tires. These MTB tires were well treaded and provided a lot of traction on rough trails. Along with double walled Alloy rims, these tires were strong enough to handle rough patches.

The stock sport hyper aero saddle was ergonomically designed with comfortable padding.

Hero Octane Gyrfalcon 29 Wheels and Steering The DSI 29” x 2.2” MTB tires were both fast rolling and heavily treaded

This bicycle is a Hardtail MTB with performance focused Shimano Altus/Acera 24-Speed derailleurs which shifted smoothly without any lag. The wide handlebars and heavily treaded 29” tires made it perfect for rough trail rides and downhills. Priced at Rs.28,500 (as on 9th November 2019) the Hero Octane Gyrfalcon 29 is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy an performance focused MTB for riding on moderate to hard trails.
