This hardtail alloy frame is strong enough to handle rough patches with ease.
A little more smoothness on the travel would have improved the suspension performance.
The overall gear shifting was smooth and experienced no lags during the test ride.
The Mechanical Disc Brakes at the front and rear were balanced on both wet and dry roads.
The 27.5” x 2.1” DSI MTB tires were fast rolling and heavily treaded which provided great traction of the surface.
Hero Cycles are one of the biggest and most successful bicycle brands in India. Hero has been around for more than 60 years now and has various categories of bicycles with a few sub-brands under them. Some of the sub-brands being Hero Sprint, Hero Sprint Pro and Hero Octane. We got the opportunity to test ride the Hero Sprint Pro Halcon 27.5T and here is what we thought.
The Hero Sprint Pro Halcon 27.5T is built on a strong hardtail 6061 alloy frame. The frame geometry is the perfect mix of comfort and aggressiveness with a higher standover clearance and also has a higher ground clearance to roll over bumpy trails and rough patches on urban roads. Lack of frame size choices is a bit of a let down.
The suspension fork on the Halcon had just enough travel to get you through flat trails and rough urban roads. A little more smoothness on the travel would have improved the suspension performance.
The bicycle which I test rode came in a full Black frame Yellow and Orange as the secondary colours. The adjoining top and bottom tubes not only make the frame stronger but also make it look sturdy and bulky. The matte finish paint job was of top quality. The orange gear cables and black brake cables were of good contrast and enhanced the aesthetics of this bicycle.
The Halcon 27.5T comes equipped with Shimano Tourney TY300 in the front and TY500 as rear derailleurs. The rear derailleur is a recent version of Tourney from Shimano and the overall gear shifting was smooth and experienced no lags during the test ride. The Shimano EF-500 EasyFire 21-Speed shifters felt easy to use with quick and responsive spring action.
The Mechanical Disc Brakes at the front and rear were sufficient for precise and safe braking performance on dry and wet urban roads. During the test ride, when braking on fast turns and on flat muddy surfaces, it felt balanced and had a quick response time.
The 680mm alloy handlebar on the Halcon was wide and gave an open chested riding posture which was perfect for keeping the bicycle in full control on fast flat trails and urban roads. The grips were comfortable on the palms.
The Hero Sprint Pro Halcon 27.5T rolls on a pair of DSI 27.5” x 2.10” MTB tires along with Spur XCR alloy double walled rims. The treading was bulky and evenly spaced out, giving superior traction on flat muddy surfaces. The stock racing PU saddle was sporty in design with the perfect length and width to keep the rider comfortable and stable.
