Hero Cycles is one of the biggest and most successful bicycle brands in India. Hero has been around for more than 60 years and has various categories of bicycles with a few sub-brands under them. The sub-brands being Hero Sprint, Hero Sprint Pro and Hero Octane. We got the opportunity to test ride the Hero Sprint Pro Reaction 27.5T and here is what we thought.
Weight: 17.2 kgs
Category: Commuting/Leisure
The Hero Sprint Pro Reaction 27.5T is built on a strong hardtail steel frame. The frame geometry is the perfect mix of comfort and aggressiveness. The slight slant in the top tube gives that extra bit of standover clearance which makes getting on and off the saddle easy and safe when riding amidst traffic on urban roads. Lack of multiple frame size options is a letdown.
The suspension fork on the Reaction 27.5T had just enough travel to get you through flat trails and rough urban roads. A little more smoothness and extra travel would have improved the suspension performance.
The bicycle which I test rode came in a full black frame with white graphics. The matte finish paint job was top notch in quality and smooth. The text and logo design and font were bold with perfect placement to make it look funky. The saddle, rims and handlebar were all colour coded to the frame which made the bicycle look aesthetic.
The Reaction 25.5T comes equipped with Shimano Tourney TZ500 in the front and rear as derailleurs. Both these derailleurs are a recent version of Tourney from Shimano and the overall gear shifting was smooth and experienced no lags during the test ride. The Shimano EF-500 Easy Fire 21-Speed shifters felt easy to use with a quick and responsive spring action.
The Purk branded Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear were sufficient for precise and safe braking performance on dry and wet urban roads. During the test ride, when braking on fast turns and on flat muddy surfaces, it felt balanced and had a quick response time.
The 680mm Steel flat handlebar on the Reaction 27.5T was wide and gave an open chested riding posture which was perfect for keeping the bicycle in full control on fast flat trails and urban roads. The grips were comfortable on the palms.
The Hero Sprint Pro Reaction 27.5T rolls on a pair of DSI 27.5” x 2.10” MTB tires along with Spur XCR Alloy double walled rims. The treading was bulky and evenly spaced out, giving superior traction on flat muddy surfaces. The stock Racing PU Saddle was sporty in design with the perfect length and width to keep the rider comfortable and stable.
