The frame is responsive and can handle a lot of hard hitting from the surface.
A minimal working suspension, which was just sufficient to make your ride comfortable when riding over potholes and speed breakers on urban roads.
The 21-Speed Shimano TZ drivetrain shifted smoothly without any lags.
The SunRun V-Brakes were well balanced and felt safe to use on wet and dry roads.
The 26” x 2.1” MTB tires with bulky treads could handle rough patches on urban roads with ease.
Hero Cycles are one of the country’s top bicycle brands with a long legacy of being the front runners in bicycle manufacturing in India. The Sprint Pro series are a line of urban MTBs with strong frames and flashy designs. We got the opportunity to test ride the Hero Sprint Pro Sweed 26T and here is what we thought.
The Sweed is built on a strong hardtail alloy frame. Steel is common for bicycles at this price. Even though the material is heavy, this is only felt on inclines. The frame is responsive and can handle a lot of hard hitting from the surface. The standard frame geometry makes the riding posture comfortable.
The suspension fork on this hardtail MTB has a minimal working suspension, which was just sufficient to make your ride comfortable when riding over potholes and speed breakers on urban roads.
The bicycle which I test rode came in a full grey frame with black and yellow graphics. The full grey primary colour was unique and has a smooth matte finish paint job. The graphics were racy but minimal and neat at the same time. The yellow gear cables, yellow graphics on the handlebar, black/yellow rims and fork made sure there is uniformity in the design, which definitely made the bicycle stand out.
Shimano’s TZ series of derailleurs seem to be used most commonly on the Sprint Pro urban MTB’s. These entry-level derailleur components are a recently launched version of the Tourney from Shimano. These 21-Speed derailleurs even though are the most basic version of gears worked well during the test ride with smooth shifting using the EF500 Shimano trigger shifters.
V-Brakes with good brake pads when set up right can perform as good as most mechanical disc brakes. Thus is the case in the Hero Sprint Sweed 26T, which comes equipped with SunRun V-Brakes. These brakes performed well during the test ride on urban roads even when used during moderate rains.
The steel 660mm handlebar was comfortable and lengthy to provide an open chested riding posture.
The 26” x 2.1” MTB tires along with double walled alloy rims made for a strong set of wheels for this urban MTB. These tires could handle rough non-tarmac surfaces well, thanks to the bulky and evenly spread out treads. The stock comfort PU saddles on the Sweed 26Twas not the most ergonomic in design but has enough cushioning to keep the rider sore free.
