Started in 1979 with City Cruiser bicycles, Jamis have come a long way with a wide range of City Bikes, Road Bikes and MTB’s. We got the opportunity to test ride the Jamis Durango A1 and here is what we thought.
Weight: 14.5kgs
Usage: Trail/Fitness
The Jamis Durango A1 is built on a strong yet lightweight 6061 Alloy Hardtail frame. This frame is built to ride on flat to moderate trails and the roughest of urban roads. The slanted top tube allows for the rider to tuck in their knees during drops so as to balance the Bicycle. The tubes are welded smoothly and the Alloy material has been used in perfect proportion on parts of the frame, which could experience maximum impact from the surface of the trail.
The SR Suntour XCT30 front suspension fork made a considerable difference in absorbing vibrations of the surface during the test ride. The suspension lock-out feature helped ride faster on flatter surfaces.
The Durango A1 which we test rode came in a full Garnet Red frame with Black graphics. The gloss finish paint job is of top quality and blends the colours used in a neat manner. The slanting top tube and the wide handlebar make this Bicycle look sporty and sleeker in design. The colour coded rims and suspension along with bulky treads on the tire make this MTB score high on aesthetics.
This Hardtail MTB from Jamis comes equipped with Microshift Advent M6195 9-Speed rear derailleur and no front derailleur. This 1x9-Speed setup is a mid-level MTB specific componentry from Microshift and it did perform well during the test ride. Quick shifts of up and down were smooth and did not have any lags. The 1x9-Speed combination with M8195 Microshift Advent shifter made sure there was enough range of gears for climbs and acceleration.
The Tektro Hydraulic Disc brakes handled the stopping power on the Durango A1. These brakes are powerful on muddy and wet trails. During the test ride these brakes were balanced and powerful enough to bring the Bicycle to a safe but quick halt in both dry and wet conditions.
The 740mm mid raiser handlebar was lengthy and comfortable to manuever sharp trails with ease.
The stock MTB saddle is perfectly designed to make sure the rider is safe and sore free on a bumpy surfaces.
This MTB has a strong and comfortable frame build and geometry. The frame is designed for riding on the roughest of surfaces. The powerful Tektro Hydraulic Disc brakes make it perfectly safe to brake when riding fast on trails. The heavily treaded tires provide enough traction to roll safely on wet and dry surfaces. Priced at Rs.62,500 (as on 28th December 2022) the Jamis Durango A1 (2022) is an ideal choice MTB for both trails and rough urban roads.
