The frame geometry is simple and the curved top tube also makes the riding posture comfortable.
This is just about enough for those speed breakers and bumps and city roads.
The single speed drivetrain was simple to ride and comfortable to pedal.
The disc brakes worked in a balanced manner on rough city roads and also braking when turning felt safe.
The tires are treaded heavily on both the middle and edges making them have decent traction on dry and wet conditions.
Kross is an Indian bicycle brand which came into existence in the year 2010. Kross consists of MTB’s, Hybrids, Kids and also Roadster bicycles. From the new range of Kross bicycles we got the opportunity to test ride the Kross Maximus 26T Single Speed Disc and here is what we thought.
The Kross Maximus is built on a steel frame. Steel is a heavy material and yes it does make this frame heavy. This bicycle is categorized as an urban MTB, to be ridden on flat trails and urban roads. The frame geometry is simple and the curved top tube also makes the riding posture comfortable. Not just that, this frame geometry also makes it easier for women to get on this bicycle and ride.
Being an urban MTB the Maximus comes with a front suspension fork. This fork is the most basic with hardly 50mm of travel. This is just about enough for those speed breakers and bumps and city roads but definitely not enough to absorb the bumps on trails.
The Maximus 26T definitely looks like a bicycle which at least costs triple the amount than what its actual price is. This is great on the design front. The bicycle which I test rode came in a fluorescent orange colour with grey accents in a few places. The seat and rims are also colour-coded which makes it look neat. The mudguards at the front and back bring about a sport outlook to this urban bicycle. With a comfort based design and bright colours this bicycle is sure to turn heads on the streets.
The Kross Maximus 26T is a single speed bicycle. When there is derailleur technology growing at a rapid phase to make the riding experience better, the joy of riding a single speed bicycle is still something to cherish. Being an urban MTB the single speed drivetrain does make the pedaling a simple affair.
The brakes on the Maximus 26T is the most important component on this bicycle. This urban MTB is fixed with mechanical disc brakes at both the front and rear. Plastic brake levers control these disc brakes, which were very easy to use but did feel fragile. The brakes worked in a balanced manner on rough city roads and also braking when turning felt safe.
The steel black handlebar has a major raise from the middle making the handlebar position both straight back and at a good height. This is perfect for commuting and maneuvering in traffic.
Being categorized as an urban MTB the tires on this bicycle are important for it to perform well on rough surfaces. The Maximus 26T rolls on a pair of 26 inch Ralson tires. These tires are treaded heavily on both the middle and edges making them have decent traction on dry and wet conditions. The whole wheel set is also not too heavy, which makes the bicycle roll faster on flat surfaces.
The stock saddle was cushioned perfectly for short rides and eliminates saddle soreness.
This bicycle can be ridden on both urban streets and flat trails thanks to its heavily treaded tires. This single speed drivetrain is easy to ride and also easy to maintain. This frame geometry makes the ride posture a comfortable one. With disc brakes and a great design this Kross Maximus which is priced at Rs.7,725 is a great value for money bicycle for anyone to own.
