KTM is a renowned Austrian brand that has been producing high-quality Motor Bikes and Bicycles for over 50 years. KTM is a popular brand amongst the youth in India for their range of Motor Bikes. The brands dedication to quality, performance, and innovation has earned it a loyal following of Cyclists worldwide. Each KTM Bicycle is built with precision and attention to detail, using top-of-the-line materials and components. We got the opportunity to test ride the KTM Ultra Ride 29T Hardtail MTB and here is what we thought.
Weight: 14.4kgs
Usage: Trail/XC/Fitness
The KTM Ultra Ride 29T is built using a Hydroformed Alloy frame. This Alloy frame has its in-house KTM technology which helps absorb vibrations from the surface when it passes through the frame; this immensely helps in having a much smoother ride on trails. The slanting top tube helps the rider get into an aggressive yet comfortable posture. For a Bicycle meant to tackle the roughest of terrains, the frame weight is light which helps in acceleration.
The Rockshox suspension fork was responsive during the test ride and absorbed most of the vibrations on the trail. The remote lock-out was useful in making the fork rigid in a quick and easy manner when riding.
This Hardtail Performance MTB which we test rode came in a Dark Blue primary colour with Orange in a few places as the secondary colour. The gloss finish paint job was top notch in quality. The internal cable routing for the derailleur and brake cables made the Bicycle look neat and organized.
SRAM’s SX Eagle MTB derailleur on the KTM Ultra Ride 29T is known for the quality of shifting across its rings. This may be SRAM’s best racing groupset option in this price range, but that hasn’t resulted in a lack of attention to detail: each chainring is constructed differently to balance use against weight and longevity. The 1x12-Speed drivetrain has enough range for difficult climbs and for picking up speed as well. The dropping of front derailleur has truly become a norm in performance and race specific MTBs as it helps in keeping the shifting easier and quick. This gearing setup is complete with SRAM’s SX Eagle 12-Speed trigger shifters which were easy and responsive to use.
The Shimano MT200 Hydraulic Disc brakes were as powerful as it can get on a performance focused Hardtail MTB such as this KTM Bicycle. During the test ride, these brakes were not just powerful but also balanced on wet trail surfaces. The brake levers required only 2 or 3 fingers to engage the brakes.
The 720mm KTM Line Rizer handlebar was lengthy and perfectly suited for fast trail rides. That being said this handlebar’s length makes it uncomfortable for those tight maneuvers.
The KTM Ultra Ride 29T rolls on a pair of Schwalbe 29” x 2.25” MTB tires. These hard compound heavily treaded tires were tough and can easily handle the wettest and roughest of trails.
The KTM Line Saddle on this Hardtail MTB is designed to make sure the rider is sore free even when he or she spends long hours on this saddle during XC rides and races.
This MTB is built for Trail rides and Cross Country races. The 1x12-Speed SRAM SX Eagle gears along with the Shimano MT200 Hydraulic Disc brakes make this Bicycle a powerful MTB to ride. The internal cable routing save the cables from all the muck from the trails. Priced at Rs.71,999(as on 25th July 2023) the KTM Ultra Ride 29 is an ideal Bicycle for anyone one looking to buy an MTB for the roughest of trail rides and XC races.
