Merida is a Taiwanese Bicycle manufacturer who have been around since 1972. Merida are known for their performance packed, value for money Bicycles with cutting edge design. We got the opportunity to test ride the Merida Scultura Rim 4000 (2022) and here is what we thought.

The Merida Scultura Rim 4000 (2022) is fast and feather light full Shimano 105 equipped all-rounder Road Bicycle weighing just 8.7kgs.
The Scultura Rim 4000 is built on a full carbon frame. This CF2 Carbon frame is super light and durable thanks to its NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautic) fastback profiled down tube and seat tube for improved aerodynamics. Wind tunnel testing from Merida has ensured the teardrop shaped tubes enable perfect airflow at the lowest weight.
The rigid fork on this Bicycle is made of Merida’s Scultura CF Carbon. These bladed forks contribute to smooth steering and keeping the front half of the Bicycle light.

Merida’s design, especially on Road Bikes are top notch and the same was reflected on the 2022 Scultura Rim 4000. This frame comes in a Gloss Blue primary colour with Black graphics. The improved tube profiling definitely has made the finishing look aerodynamic and aesthetic.

The Scultura Rim 4000 (2022) is equipped with a full Shimano 105 drivetrain. 105 is Shimano’s beginning of top end performance drivetrains. It sits beneath Ultegra in the road component line-up. During the test ride both at the front and rear, the gears shift cleanly, smoothly and quietly. We never missed a gear or felt the shifter being unresponsive when we needed to change gears quickly. It shifts well under load and on inclines as well. The 2x11-Speed integrated Shimano 105 shifters were easy to use with feather light pushes to change the gears.

To make it a complete groupset, the Scultura Rim 4000 (2022) comes with Shimano 105 Caliper brakes at the front and rear. These lightweight braking components made sure the braking was precise and balanced on both dry and wet flat tarmacs.
The Merida Expert SL drop handlebar was perfect in width making it not too wide nor too cramped. Getting off the saddle and accelerating was easier thanks to the great steering response which this handlebar provided.

The Continental Ultra Sport 3, 700x25C folding tires on the Scultura Rim 4000 are race specific tires built to be lightweight but reliable. The puncture protect technology ensures the tires and tubes are saved from smaller punctures on the road.
The Merida Comp SL Saddle was not only colour coded, but has a level of support and cushioning that suits the rider on faster rides just as much as those riding a century ride. The saddle also has an inbuilt multi-tool kit stored under which can be easily removed.

The design and graphics were aesthetic and the gloss finish was smooth and of top notch quality.
