This frame has a slanting top tube which gives the rider extra stand over clearance.
The 100mm travel will be great when on technical trails and extremely rugged surfaces.
The Shimano Altus/Acera 24-Speed drivetrain was smooth and efficient in gear changes.
Tektro’s Aries Mechanical Disc Brakes are powerful and balanced.
The 27.5” MTB tires were heavily treaded with a uniform tread pattern.
Montra is an Indian performance bicycle brand with bicycles for all purposes and riders. Every year Montra has a dedicated line of new bicycle releases with better graphics, design and specifications. The Rock MTB series from Montra has been their most popular range of bicycles for a long time now. From the 2018 range we got the opportunity to test ride the Montra Rock 4.1 27.5” (2018) and here is what we thought.
The Rock 4.1 27.5” (2018) is built using a strong hardtail alloy frame. This frame has a slanting top tube which gives the rider extra stand over clearance. This helps when riding on bumpy trails with a lot of up’s and down’s. The tubes are bulky to give strength to the frame.
This is a hardtail MTB and comes with a Suntour XCT-HLO front suspension fork, which has a 100mm travel which was perfect for moderate to hard trails. The suspension lockout on the suspension fork helps in making the bicycle rigid which gives that extra acceleration on flat surfaces.
The bicycle which I test rode came in a full grey frame with black and fluorescent green graphics. The matte finish paint job was of superior quality giving a smooth finish. The graphic design was simple yet elegant and the bright and dark colour combinations were contrasting and aesthetic.
This hardtail MTB is equipped with Shimano Altus at the front and Acera at the rear. These gears are mid-level in the Shimano MTB hierarchy and they proved their efficiency during the test ride with smooth gear transmissions. The 24-Speed Shimano Altus trigger shifters were easy to use and in easy reach from the handlebar grips.
Tektro’s Aries Mechanical Disc Brakes handle the stopping power on the Rock 4.1 27.5” 2018. These brakes were quick to respond on both dry and wet surfaces. These brakes from Tektro are a good bargain for a MTB at this price and makes trail riding safer.
The XMR Zoom Alloy 680mm handlebar was wide and perfectly suited for the most challenging of trails.
The XMR trail saddle was ergonomically designed to make sure the rider is sore-free when riding over bumpy surfaces. The overall ride quality was comfortable on rough trails and urban roads.
