Nuze is an Indian Electric Bicycle brand and a new entrant to the Electric Bicycle market in India. Nuze is an E-bicycle specific brand and has come out with 4 products for specific purposes and riders. 2 Products fall under the Commuter Range, while the other 2 models fall under Sports range. The brand believes that sustainable technology can redefine the world, as we know it. Their core philosophy is to bring you the most advanced electric bicycle design and technology with a touch of style and fashion, to help you start your electric journey. All of Nuze’s electric bicycle range is made at an International state of the art European Union (EU) certified plant, maintaining the highest quality parameters. We got the opportunity to test ride the Nuze S3 from the sport series, and here is what we thought.
Weight: 20.5 kgs
Usage: Commute/Fitness/Leisure
The S3 is a part of Nuze’s Sport series and the frame reflects that. The 6061 Alloy frame is the perfect combination of the strength and weight. During the ride the frame’s weight felt balanced when riding through corners and also riding through traffic. Since this a MTB, I took the S3 on some rough patches on the roads too and the frame had enough tensile strength to absorb vibrations of the surface. The riding posture was comfortable and open-chested and the anti-skid pedals enhanced the safety aspect of this Electric Bicycle.
This is a Hardtail E-MTB which means it comes with a front suspension fork. When riding through the rough patches, the suspension travel working was very evident and made the riding experience even more comfortable.
The Nuze S3 is a Mountain Bike in profile and the design language clearly shows it. This Hardtail Electric MTB comes with a full Red primary colour on the frame with Black as the secondary colour for some racy graphics. The matte finish paint job made the Red frame look very premium and this E-Bicycle is sure to stand out in the crowd. The battery pack is attached externally to the bottom tube and the shape of it is designed in a way to smoothly blend in with the frame.
The S3 from Nuze is equipped with a Shimano Tourney 7-Speed gearing set-up. During the test ride, the gears helped in maintaining the cadence and adjust the pressure you want to put into pedalling accordingly. This helped in matching the pedalling speed with the speed of the motor when riding in Pedal Assist mode. When a rare situation arises like the battery power running out in the middle of a ride, these 7-Speed gears will help you ride to your destination by controlling the effort you want to put into pedalling, by either pedalling easy and moving slow in lower gears or pedalling hard and moving fast in higher gears.
The Nuze S3 is part of the Sport series of Electric Bicycles from Nuze. Hence this model comes with a 7.8Ah Lithium-Ion battery, which is a higher capacity compared to the- i/Commuter series models. The acceleration on the throttle was impressive and the top speed does get to the maximum of 25km/hr which did feel fast when zipping through roads.
There are 3 Pedal Assist modes; Low, Medium and High. Each mode decided the amount of battery push assistance you would require per pedal rotation. This pedal assist mode helps you get better mileage while still going fast and exerting lesser energy when pedalling. The reaction time for the battery to power during pedal assist modes is quick and is as fast in accelerating as it is on throttle mode. Charging of the S3 is easy thanks to its port situated on the battery pack. Since this a detachable battery, you can charge the battery at your home or office by removing the battery pack and taking it to your home or office.
All electronics on the Nuze range of E Bicycles are IP67 water resistant standards and splash proof.
While we keep talking about speed and acceleration on E-bicycles, it is equally important to have a good pair of brakes to make sure you can come to a halt safely. The Nuze S3’s Mechanical Disc brakes gave me enough confidence to apply the brakes hard even on fast and wet roads. The brakes felt powerful and smooth to use during the test ride. The E-Bicycle also comes with the most important safety feature, which is the auto cut off brake sensor. How this works is that when the brake is applied, it automatically cuts off power to the motor, thereby enabling you to stop safely even though you have engaged the throttle.
The lengthy handlebar on the S3 was in easy reach from the saddle. The throttle side right grip and the normal left grip had enough padding to make the palms comfortable. This handlebar was raised from the middle and made the riding posture open chested and comfortable.
This Electric Mountain Bike was a breeze to ride through rough patches and also to get traction during high speed corners and braking. All these were possible only because of the 27.5” DSI tires which had impressive tread pattern. The double walled Alloy rims made the wheels strong enough to handle bumps and rough patches.
Our test ride of the Nuze S3 had a mix of smooth and rough roads with bumps and speed breakers. This stock saddle from Nuze was comfortable during the test ride. The common notion when it comes to a saddle is, it has to be big and cushioning but a perfect saddle like in the Nuze, just needs enough cushioning to rest both your sit bones. More cushioning leads to more movement of the hips, which is unstable and could cause back pain in the long run. The only change I would like to see in this Nuze saddle is a bit of reduction on the length of the saddle which looks a bit too pointy.
The Sport series Nuze S3 is built to handle rough roads and the powerful motor and battery make is exciting ride fast through smooth and rough roads. The company has also ensured a Pan India warranty cover, along with ‘Service at home’ options in over 24+ cities across India. Priced at Rs. 43,651 (as on 9th September 2021), the Nuze S3 is perfectly suited for riding on flat trails and rough urban roads.
