Polygon is an International Bicycle brand manufactured in Indonesia. They are known for Bicycles with performance focused components with a value for money price tag. Bend is Polygon’s range of Gravel Bicycles. We got the opportunity to test ride the Polygon Bend R2 (2021) and here is what we thought.
Weight: 12.2kgs
Usage: Single Track/Road-Fitness/ Touring
The Polygon Bend R2 is built on an ALX Gravel Aluminium frame. Whilst there is a notion that Bicycles like the Bend, which are meant to be ridden on rough surfaces have heavier frames, this is not the case with this frame as the hydro forming triple butted tubing system has helped shape the tubes in a way to use material only where it is needed the most. Acceleration was top notch and the riding position was comfortable. The frame was well supported by lightweight rigid fork.
This Road Bicycle from Polygon came in an Arctic Blue frame with Black as the secondary colour. The gloss paint job was smooth with aesthetic graphics. Internal cable routing for the gears made sure the Bicycle looked neat and also increases the life of the cables.
The Bend R2 is equipped with a Shimano Sora groupset. This 2x9-Speed drivetrain is the 2nd from the bottom in Shimano’s road component hierarchy. The shifting was quick and responsive during the test ride. The ST-R3000 Sora shifters have no gear indicators which is similar to the 105 and Ultegra shifters.
The Polygon Bend R2’s stopping power is handled by Tektro Mechanical Disc brakes. These Mechanical Disc brakes provide powerful, comfortable performance thanks to Tektro’s significant increase in modulation.
The drop handlebar on this Bicycle was comfortable and the bar tape was grippy even with wet hands and gloves.
The Vee branded 650x47C Gravel Tires were perfect for racing and climbing on uneven surfaces. The rubber compounds were strong and does give a long life, thus making it value for money.
The Entity Saddle is designed ergonomically for an endurance Gravel Bicycle to make sure the rider can be seated for long hours on rough surfaces without experiencing any soreness.
With a frame and fork combination that shines when conditions get rough, this Bicycle is a fine entry into the world of Gravel. The balanced Mechanical Disc brakes and a comfortable riding posture provide full control of the Bicycle on rough and wet surfaces. If you are someone looking to get into the world of Gravel then the Bend R2 from Polygon is definitely a great choice to consider.
