Shenzhen SUBITE Bicycle Development Co., Ltd. was established in 2012 in China owned by Justin Sun. Sunpeed Bicycle’s factory is in Shenzhen, China. The brand SUNPEED means the SUN and SPEED. The brands inspiration comes from the word SUN which is the source of all light, while SPEED means fast. We got the opportunity to test ride the Sunpeed Zero 29 and here is what we thought.
Weight: 14.1kgs
Usage: Fitness/Trails
The Sunpeed Zero 29 is built on a lightweight full Alloy frame. The geometry is comfort focused and this is needed for fast and controlled rides on trails. This frame has an almost straight top tube, smoothly welded frame and a short thin rear triangle for increased stability.
The stock front suspension fork comes with a working travel of 100mm travel which helped make the ride comfortable when rolling over bumpy surfaces. The suspension lock-out was a useful feature to ride faster on flatted surfaces.
This Sunpeed Zero’s designs are simple yet elegant with smooth welding of the tubes. The Bicycle I test rode came in a Blue gloss finish frame with Silver as the secondary colour for text and graphics. The black rims and seat were in good sync with the Blue frame colour.
The Sunpeed Zero comes with a 3x8-Speed Shimano Tourney drivetrain, with 3 gears in front and 8 in the back, giving you the capability to climb steep inclines and go fast on urban roads. This 24-Speed gear system is controlled by Shimano's trigger shifters. During the test ride the gears felt smooth to shift with no evident lag.
The Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear on the Sunpeed Zero 29 were powerful and ideal for safe and quick stoppages on both trails and rough/wet urban roads. The brake levers were in easy to reach from the handlebar grip and easy to engage.
The Alloy handlebar was lengthy with a slight raise from the middle. This gave the rider total control over the bicycle during fast turns.
The Sunpeed Zero 29 rolls on a pair of 29” x 2.10” CST Jack Rabbit MTB tires. These tires were the perfect blend of grip and speed. The heavy and uniform tread pattern made it easier to roll on hard surfaces and the 29” circumference and the Alloy rims made it faster.
The stock saddle was both ergonomic in design and had ample cushioning to keep the rider comfortable on the bumpiest of rides.
This Hardtail MTB is built on an Alloy frame and has a comfortable riding posture. The front suspension fork made the ride easier on bumpy surfaces. The 24-Speed gears and Mechanical Disc brakes made it possible to ride longer distances and on muddy and wet surfaces. Priced at Rs.26,000 (as on 27th December 2022) the Sunpeed Zero 29 is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy an MTB for both trails and urban rides.
