Toutche is an Electric Bicycle brand who has been around in the industry for a few years now. This Indian brand specializes in Electric Bicycles with detachable batteries. There are 4 models which Toutche have in their line-up, 2 MTB’s and 2 Hybrid. We got the opportunity to test ride the Toutche Heileo M200 Electric MTB and here is what we thought.
Weight: 21.3kgs (Including battery)
Category: Commuting/Leisure
The Toutche Heileo M200 12.8AH is a Hardtail Electric MTB which is built on an Aluminium Alloy frame. This frame is strong enough to handle rough surfaces at high speeds. The strength seems to come mainly from the strong headset area where the top and bottom tubes merge, which can absorb vibrations of the surface. The slightly slanting top tube gives extra standover clearance for the rider. The tubes are neatly welded and look smooth at the joints.
The stock front suspension fork on this MTB comes with a 100mm travel which ensures smooth riding on bumpy roads and trails. The manual suspension lock-out helps make the suspension rigid and ride faster on flatter surfaces.
The Heileo M200 12.8AH which we test rode came in a full Black frame with Yellow and White as the secondary colours for graphics and text. The matte finish paint job was smooth and premium in quality. The shape of the battery and the bottom tube ensure they blend in as 1 piece in an aesthetic manner. The LCD console was bright, edgy and aesthetic in design.
This Electric Bicycle is equipped with a simple 1x8-Speed Shimano Altus drivetrain. This means there is no front derailleur and the rear has an 8-Speed Shimano Altus M310 derailleur. Gears generally help in increasing or decreasing the pressure in pedalling. This 8-Speed drivetrain helps in 2 things; for exercise purposes and also to pedal easily if in case the battery power runs out during a ride. The Shimano Altus shifters were sleek and were easy to shift with clear gear indicators.
The Heileo M200 is equipped with a 12.8Ah Lithium-Ion battery with Panasonic cells, which powers a rear brushless DC rear hub motor. This battery is installed on the top tube of the frame and is detachable. This battery can be easily removed and installed using a simple lock and key system. The 8-level Pedal Assist modes helps in controlling the power generated from the battery per each pedal. The right side grip throttle starts to work only after the motor is activated by pedalling once when the pedal assist is in the level 1 or above. If the grip throttle is let go then one has to again pedal once to activate the motor and then the throttle. This can be a little difficult in terms of quick acceleration from stand still position. The LCD display on the handlebar on the left has the assist levels, increase/decrease buttons, power on/off buttons, distance and battery level indicators.
With 1 full charge this battery is capable of giving 75-80kms in Pedal Assist mode and 50-52kms in Throttle mode. These mileages will differ with varied riding conditions and rider weight. The top speed using just throttle is 25km/hr and the speed can be increased using pedal assist simultaneously. This battery takes 3 to 4 hours to charge from 0 to 100% with any normal Indian plug point. The charging point for the battery is on the left side of the battery, which can be removed and charged separately.
The Heileo M200’s stopping power is handled by Repute branded Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. This is a performance focused brake component and provided powerful stopping power during the test ride.
The handlebar on this E-Bicycle was of the perfect length to give an open chested riding posture and easy manoeuvring. The grips are cushioned for added comfort.
The Heileo M200 12.8AH rolls on a pair of 27.5” x 2.10” Kenda tires. These tires are heavily treaded and fast rolling, making them perfect for rough/smooth roads and trails. These rims are double wall which is strong enough to handle rough roads.
The stock saddle from Toutche was aesthetically designed for long and soreness free rides.
This Hardtail Alloy frame is comfortable to ride and has an aesthetic design where the battery is attached on the bottom tube. The 12.8Ah battery is powerful with quick acceleration using grip throttle and useful 8-level pedal assist. The Repute Mechanical Disc brakes were powerful to bring this Electric Bicycle to a halt quickly even at 25km/hr. Priced at Rs.59,900 (as on 19th April 2023) the Toutche Heileo M200 12.8AH edition is an Alloy Electric MTB useful for trail rides, commutes, fitness and leisure rides.
