With an aim to reimagine the way Bicycles are engineered and designed, Triad has a range of Bicycles that place an emphasis on form, function and design. With the belief that every product made will influence and shape consumers in various ways, the brand has a wide range of Bicycles on offer catering to a wide demand. Triad launched their new Electric Bicycle range with new and revamped models. We got to test ride the Triad E3 Pro Electric Hybrid Bicycle and here is what we thought.
Weight: 20.5kgs
Usage: Commute/Fitness/Leisure
The Triad E3 Pro Electric Hardtail MTB is built on strong full Alloy frame. The frame geometry is standard with a slightly slanting top tube which gives extra standover clearance for safer riding. The riding posture is comfortable and the Alloy frame absorbs quite a bit of vibrations of the surface when riding through bumpy surfaces and flat trails at higher speeds. This frame comes in a standard 18 inch frame size. The frame has seen an upgrade in terms of build quality when compared to the previous version of the E3.
The Triad E3 comes with a front suspension fork with an impressive 80mm travel. During the test ride this suspension fork helped riding smoothly over rough roads.
The Triad E3 Pro comes in a full Black primary colour with Red as the secondary colour for graphics and text. The matte finish paint job was top notch in quality and finish. The battery pack on the bottom tube has colour coded graphics and is shaped in such a way that it blends in with the frame triangle. The front and rear LED lights were stylish in design and were not only useful features for visibility in the dark but also enhanced the aesthetics of this Electric Bicycle.
The Triad E3 Pro which I test rode came with a 1x7-Speed Shimano Tourney rear derailleur. Gears in an Electric Bicycle help in keeping up to the battery assisted speed of the E Bicycle by adjusting the pressure in pedalling. These gears are also useful when the battery charge is low or if the charge has run out, as one can use it to ride efficiently. During the test ride these gears shifted smoothly and the shifters were easy to operate.
The motor in the Triad E3 Pro is a 36V 250W brushless DC motor with waterproof casing and is located at the hub of the rear wheel. This is powered by a rechargeable and detachable Lithium-Ion battery, with a capacity of 7.8Ah. The battery takes about 3-4 hours to charge and can last for 35-50 kilometres per charge on Pedal Assist and 25-35 kilometres on Throttle Mode. The mileage on an Electric Bicycle can vary according to weather, rider weight and road inclines, Pedal Assist mode gives more mileage than throttle mode. The battery pack on the bottom tube is easily detachable and can be carried along for charging.
The E Bicycle functions on two ride modes, one being pedal assist and the second being hub, and throttle driven. In the Pedal-Assist mode, there are 3 levels – each level determining the amount of battery push provided for each pedal rotation. Level 1 being the least and level 3 being the highest battery push. The level 3 pedal assist setting allowed me to reach 25kmph with minimum efforts. In the second mode, you can get this electric cycle simply rotating the throttle on the right grip of the handlebar, similar to the accelerator on motor bikes and scooters. The maximum speed achievable on this mode is also 25kmph, however using this mode one does not have to pedal, at all. The pick-up was impressive while using both modes and the electric power was more than sufficient to effortlessly climb flyovers, up-hill roads and to get moving from a signal. There is also an additional walk mode on this E Bicycle which can be turned on by pressing and holding the minus (-) button the handlebar controller. This makes the rear wheel rotate at 5km/hr, thus making it easy to walk and push along this electric bicycle.
The Triad E3 Pro comes with Logan Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. When riding on flat trails and in the city through traffic, braking is an important component, in case one needs to get the E Bicycle to a stop quickly and move in a balanced manner. During the test ride these Mechanical Disc brakes on this Electric Bicycle worked efficiently, giving me confidence to ride fast and stop safely, no matter what the surface is. Both the brake cables acts as a motor cut off, and responds quickly as well.
The Handlebar on the E3 Pro has seen a comfort level upgrade as the previous version had a flat handlebar. The raiser handlebar on this bicycle is 600mm long and comfortable, allowing for a relaxed riding posture. The reach to the console on the left, and the grip accelerator on the right was easy to use, without straining.
The Triad E3 Pro comes with DSI 26” x 2.0” MTB tires. The heavy treading on the tires enabled rolling over any hard surface with ease. The 26” tires are fast rolling and the treads helped easily roll over rough surfaces. The saddle on this Electric Bicycle was sufficient for soreness free rides on bumpy surfaces, but this saddle could use some extra cushioning for added comfort.
This Electric Bicycle is built on a comfortable and lightweight Alloy frame which holds the powerful 7.8 Ah Lithium-Ion battery. This battery along with the brushless motor gives an impressive pick-up and a maximum speed of 25kmph. The powerful Logan Mechanical Disc brakes along with the heavily treaded 26” x 2.0” DSI tires make it safe and stable to ride though the roughest of surfaces.. Priced at Rs.46,234(as on 21st May 2022) the Triad E3 Pro is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a powerful Electric MTB for riding on rough urban roads and flat trails.
