Vaux Bicycles belong to a premium category that conceptualizes before manufacturing, imagines before executing and tests before innovating. Narrowing the gap between functionality and bike art, Vaux strikes the fine balance for Bicycling enthusiasts. We got the opportunity to test ride the Vaux Battle Thunder 700 and here is what I thought.
Weight: 15.3kgs
Usage: Trail/Fitness
The Vaux Battle Thunder 700 comes with an Alloy Hardtail frame is top notch in terms of build quality and geometry. The Alloy material has been used cautiously in a manner to make sure the most sensitive points on the frame which might experience the most vibrations have extra reinforcements. At the same time, the tubes in between is relatively smaller in circumference which reduces the weight of the frame a little bit.
Being a performance focused Hardtail MTB, the suspension plays a big role in the ride quality of this Bicycle on trails. The stock front suspension fork comes with a working travel of 80mm which worked to its limits during the test ride. The suspension lockout was quick and easy to use and helped ride faster on flatter patches on the trails.
The Bicycle which I test rode came in a full Red frame with Yellow and White graphics in quite a few places on the frame. The model name ‘Battle’ is visible in a bold font across the bottom tube which is very unique. The gloss finish paint job is top notch. The slanting top tube with a flat-wide handlebar makes this Hardtail MTB look aggressive.
The Battle Thunder 700 comes equipped with a Shimano Tourney 3-Speed front and a Shimano Altus 9-Speed at the rear as derailleurs. These are the 1st and 2nd in hierarchy from the bottom in the Shimano MTB gearing line. During the test ride these gears did perform well and without any lags and glitches. The gear shifting was smooth with no lags and the 3x9-Speed gears had enough range for quick accelerations and fast climbs. The Shimano MT200 shifters were sleek in design and easy to shift.
The stopping power on the Battle Thunder 700 is taken care of by a pair of Shimano MT200 Hydraulic Disc brakes. During the test ride these brakes were simply superb to use. They were both reactive and balanced making them safe to use on the roughest and toughest of trails. The brake levers were easy to engage.
The Alloy wide handlebar on this hardtail MTB was wide enough giving good control of the Bicycle on trails. The bar ends on this handlebar are not only stylish but also work as a safety protection for the rider.
The Vaux Battle Thunder comes with 27.5” x 1.95” MTB tires which were heavily treaded. During the test ride these tires proved its worth by rolling over rough surfaces with stones quite easily. The wheelset is strong and is meant for performance on trails.
The stock saddle on this Bicycle was padded well which ensured the rider was soreness free even on bumpy surfaces.
This hardtail MTB is packed with performance focused components which helped roll over rough surfaces on the trails during the test ride. The wide handlebar and comfortable frame geometry helped being balanced on trails. The Shimano Tourney/Altus 27-Speed gears, Shimano Hydraulic Disc brakes and CST tires contribute to a high quality riding experience. If you are someone looking to buy your first performance focused Hardtail MTB then the Vaux Battle Thunder 700 priced at Rs.40,435(as on 12th January 2022) is an ideal choice to consider.
