With precision, attention to detail, innovation and value for money being centric values, WaltX offers a range of bicycles designed in-line with European standards. WaltX have now launched their new range of Electric Bicycles in India and we got an opportunity to test ride the WaltX Spark 7 and here is what we thought.
Weight: 22.2kgs
Usage: Commute/Trail/Leisure
The WaltX Spark 7 is built on a fully Alloy frame. The riding posture was comfortable with no stress on the back and shoulders. The bottom tube holds the semi-integrated battery pack which is neat in design and sits perfectly inside the carved space in the bottom tube. This frame can handle rough roads and flat trails easily and as a rider one can feel comfortable while riding this Electric Bicycle on uneven surfaces.
The Spark 7 comes with a front suspension fork with an impressive 80mm travel. During the test ride this suspension fork was sufficient to tackle the pot holes, speed breakers and flat trails.
The WaltX Spark 7 comes in a full Blue primary colour with Black as the secondary colour for graphics and text. The matte finish paint job and decals were best in class when it comes to quality and workmanship. The battery pack sits inside an open carved bottom tube and blends in smoothly to the frame. The battery clicks in and out of the bottom tube easily and is aesthetically one of the best battery integrations on an Electric Bicycle in the Indian Electric Cycle market at the moment. The front and LED light was bright and stylish in design, this front LED light is powered directly by the Lithium-Ion battery and is turned on by pressing and holding the plus (+) button on the controller on the handlebar. The side stand on the Spark 7 is stylish and strong with bulky build which ensured it can take the full weight off the E Bicycle.
The Spark 7 MTB Electric Bicycle which I test rode came with a 1x7-Speed Shimano Tourney rear derailleur. Gears in an Electric Bicycle help in keeping up to the battery assisted speed of the E Bicycle by adjusting the pressure in pedalling. These gears are also useful when the battery charge is low or if the charge has run out, as one can use it to ride efficiently without pulling the entire weight of the Electric Bicycle. During the test ride these gears shifted smoothly and the shifters were easy to operate.
The battery pack on the WaltX Spark 7 comes with a 36V 250W brushless DC motor placed on the rear hub. This is powered by a rechargeable and detachable Lithium Ion battery, with a capacity of 10.4Ah which is placed on the bottom tube in a carved slot which makes it semi-integrated. The battery takes about 4-6 hours to charge and can last for 50-60 kilometres per charge on Pedal Assist and 40-45 kilometres on Throttle mode. The mileage on an Electric Bicycle can vary according to weather, rider weight and road inclines. Pedal assist mode gives more mileage than throttle mode. The battery pack on the bottom tube is easily detachable and can be carried along for charging. There is switch on top of the battery with a light indicator with 3 different colours to indicate the charge level. As a safety feature the Spark 7 has an electric mode lock at the right side of the handlebar. This lock needs to be turned on using a key which in turn lets the rider use the Electric modes.
The Electric Bicycle functions on 3 operating modes, 1 being Pedal Assist, the 2nd being Throttle mode and the 3rd being Walk mode. In the Pedal Assist mode, there are 3 levels – each level determining the amount of battery push provided for each pedal rotation. Level 1 being the least and level 3 being the highest battery push. The level 3 pedal assist setting allowed me to reach 25kmph with minimum efforts within a few pedals. In the 2nd mode, you can get this Electric Cycle moving by simply rotating the half grip throttle on the right side grip of the handlebar, similar to the accelerator on motor bikes and scooters. The maximum speed achievable on this mode is also 25kmph, however using this mode one does not have to pedal, at all. The acceleration was impressive while using both modes and the electric power was more than sufficient to effortlessly ride on inclines and rough roads. The 3rd mode is the Walk mode which can be activated by pressing and holding the minus (-) button on the controller on the handlebar. The Walk mode makes this Electric Bicycle move at 5km/hr, making it ideal for walking along with the E Bicycle without having to put in the effort to push the bicycle.
The WaltX Spark 7 comes with Logan Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. Since Electric Bicycles go at 25kmph, Braking is an important component, in case one needs to get the Electric Bicycle to a complete stop as quick as possible and in a balanced manner. During the test ride on both roads and flat trails, these Logan Mechanical Disc brakes on this Electric Bicycle worked efficiently, giving me confidence to ride fast and stop safely. Both the brake levers acts as a motor cut off, and it responds quickly.
The raiser handlebar on this E Bicycle is 600mm long and comfortable, allowing for a comfortable riding position. The reach to the console on the left, and the grip accelerator on the right was easy to use, without much strain.
The WaltX Spark 7 comes with Ralson 27.5” x 2.1” tires. The heavy treading on the tires enabled rolling over any hard surface. The 27.5” tires are fast rolling and the treads helped easily roll over rough surfaces and corner safely.
The saddle on this Electric Bicycle is comfortable with sufficient cushioning. The length of the saddle alone could have reduced a bit at the front.
This Electric Bicycle is built on a full Alloy frame and a powerful 10.4Ah Lithium-Ion battery. This battery is semi-integrated on the bottom tube, making it seamless and stylish. The powerful Logan Mechanical Disc brakes along with the fast rolling and heavily treaded 27.5” tires made it easy to ride on rough surfaces. Priced at Rs.53,812 (as on 2nd May 2022) the WaltX Spark 7 is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a powerful electric bicycle with an extended range for commutes and leisure rides.
