A lightweight Steel frame that is durable and Strong
At the given price point a suspension fork with 50mm travel is common and expected – so, the 80mm travel on this bicycle is a good value add.
When on the test ride, the 21-Speed Shimano Tourney gears ensured the shifting was crisp and precise with no evident lag.
The Mechanical Disc brake’s stopping power was adequate for usage on urban surfaces and mild rugged roads.
When on rugged roads, the DSI 26” MTB tire’s treading works well to grip the surface and offer added balance and stability and even when on turns
With precision, attention to detail, innovation and value for money being centric values, WaltX offers a range of bicycles designed in-line with European standards, that cater to the riding needs of everybody. We got to check out the WaltX Trail 26 S. Read on for our thoughts.
Weight: 16 kgs
Category: Leisure/ Fitness
The WaltX Trail 26 S has been made using a TIG welded Steel frame. Though Steel frames are typically associated with being bulky and heavy, the WaltX Trail 26 S is surprisingly lightweight. The TIG technology combined with the tapered tubing are factors that are likely to have contributed to the overall reduced weight of the Steel frame. The frame geometry ensures a comfortable and relaxed riding position with no compromise on performance. The frame has the provision to attach a water bottle holder to it.
This bicycle is equipped with a WaltX branded suspension fork with a 80mm travel. At the given price point a fork with 50mm travel is common and expected – so, the 80mm travel on this bicycle is an unexpected bonus! The fork works well to absorb shock felt from rugged roads and mild trails. This bicycle is available in a single sizing option – 18”.
The WaltX Trail 26 S emphasizes on the broad appeal of simplicity and clean aesthetics. Available in a primary colour of Matte Black with Bright Yellow graphics, the bicycle comes off as sleek and eye catching with simple branding that is not overwhelming when seen. Additonally, the high quality matte finish enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the bicycle.
The WaltX Trail 26 S is a 21-Speed bicycle. The bicycle comes equipped with Shimano Tourney TZ30 front and rear derailleurs whose shifting is controlled by Shimano EF41 trigger shifters. When on the test ride, the shifting was crisp and precise with no evident lag. The gear transmission was smooth, responsive and quick and the trigger shifters were easy to operate, requiring just the lightest click to shift between gears.
The WaltX Trail 26 S comes equipped with a pair of Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. The braking was adequate for usage on urban surfaces and mild rugged roads. However, I feel that the brakes lacked power to bring the bicycle to a complete stop and thus could do with added stoppage power for more precise braking.
A wide 680mm handlebar ensures an ‘open-chested’ riding position that is comfortable. Additionally, the length of the handlebar ensured supreme control of the bicycle and quick handling and maneuvering while in congested riding conditions, such as traffic ridden urban roads and on rugged surfaces like mild flat trails. The bar grips are on the harder side, while this may not affect the overall performance when used on flat/paved roads, it could be uncomfortable when used on mild, flat trails/ rugged uneven surfaces.
The WaltX Trail 26 S rolls on a pair of DSI 26” x 2.0” tires. The ‘raised button’ treading on the tires is placed close each other and offers added grip. When on rugged roads, the treading works well to grip the surface and offer added balance and stability, even when on turns. The wheels are equipped with a QR option.
The WaltX Trail 26 S comes equipped with an ergonomic MTB saddle. The saddle is wide enough to comfortably accomodate one’s sit bones. However, I found that the saddle was slightly long and could do with a little extra cushioning. The seat post has a QR option that enables easy and quick adjustment of the saddle height.
The WaltX Trail 26 S comes with ISO certified reflectors (on the pedals, wheels and at the front and back), a side stand, and a set of tools. This bicycle is ideal for those looking for a bicycle that can be used on urban roads and for the occassional off-road riding on flat trails and paths, and is priced at INR 17,047 (as on 30th September 2019).
