Shimano Tourney vs Microshift Mezzo

If you purchased a Bicycle in the past two decades there’s a very good chance that it came equipped with a Shimano drivetrain. While microSHIFT may not be as well-known as Shimano, the Taiwanese company has been designing and manufacturing shifters, derailleurs, and cassettes since 1999. With a product range spanning City, Road, and Mountain Bikes, microSHIFT’s entry-level equivalent to Shimano Tourney– the Mezzo–is a versatile, affordable gear system designed for maximum durability with minimal maintenance.

ABOUT microSHIFT

microSHIFT was founded in 1999 by a small group of seasoned Bicycle Industry veterans in Taiwan. Their factories use cutting edge technology to insure precise, consistent production. By using modern, scalable processes; microSHIFT claims to meet high demand while still retaining the reliability which the customers have come to depend on. Components from microSHIFT are used in many major Bicycle brands including Specialized, GT, Giant, BTwin, Cannondale etc. In addition, microSHIFT also sponsors UCI Continental racing teams from every part of the world.

microSHIFT’s drivetrain components are available for MTB and Road Category Bicycles. Components include front derailleurs, rear derailleurs, shifters and cassettes. The microSHIFT’s MTB component hierarchy includes Mezzo, Marvo LT, XLE-10, XLE-11, XCD, Acolyte, Advent and Advent-X. The road bicycle component hierarchy from microSHIFT includes R-8, R-9, R-10, Centos-10, Centos-11 and Arsis-11.

Front Derailleur- microSHIFT FD-M20/M22

The microSHIFT’s Mezzo FD-M20/22 is the 3-Speed front derailleur used in MTB and Hybrid Bicycles. These derailleurs are compatible to both 7 and 8-Speed rear derailleurs. The gear teeth ratio for the front derailleur would be 42T-24T-32T and 48T-28T-38T. The Mezzo FD-M20/22 is equivalent to Shimano’s Tourney TY/TZ front derailleurs in terms of performance. The microSHIFT FD-M20/22 front derailleurs with a dual pull type design ensures smooth gear shifting between the 3 chain rings with sufficient gap in the derailleur cage for easy and seamless movement of the chain. The microSHIFT FD-M20/22 front derailleurs are sleek in design and weigh only 143 and 152 grams respectively.

Rear Derailleur- microSHIFT RD-M21L

The microSHIFT’s Mezzo RD-M21L is a rear derailleur which can be used as both 6 and 7-Speed gears. They are compatible to 2 and 3 speed front derailleurs. The maximum sprockets which the RD-M21L can handle are 32T and have a total capacity of 43T. The microSHIFT Mezzo RD-M21L rear derailleur is equivalent to Shimano Tourney’s TY/TZ rear derailleurs with respect to performance. This long cage direct attachment type rear derailleur is quick and smooth in shifting gears with no lag or delay in the chains moving between the 6 or 7 chain rings. The microSHIFT RD-M21L rear derailleur is both strong and sleek in design and weighs only 279 grams.

Shifter- microSHIFT TS38

The microSHIFT’s Mezzo TS38 are thumb push type shifters. These shifters are used to control 3x7-Speed derailleurs. The TS38 shifters can be installed on flat and flat-raiser type handlebars. The microSHIFT TS38 shifter comes with optical gear indicators. These shifters are equivalent to Shimano’s Altus/EF500 3x7-Speed shifters in terms of quality and performance. This TS38 3x7-Speed shifters are easy to use with a swift spring action push shifter levers. The microSHIFT TS38 21-Speed shifters have a strong build quality with an aesthetic design and weighs only 235 grams.
