Cannondale Quick 5 Disc (2018) - Review

The Quick 5 Disc is built on a strong yet lightweight full alloy frame. Cannondale markets this frame as the lightest in its class. While numbers can vary the ride quality and stiffness this frame offers is excellent. The SAVE or the Synapse Active Vibration Elimination technology on the frame is all about reducing road shock and vibration. The chain stays, seat stays, fork and seat post are the areas, which help absorb the shock and in turn improving comfort and performance. The frame geometry provides a good mix of relaxed riding posture and a slightly forward leaning posture for better efficiency.

The Quick 5 Disc is equipped with Shimano's Altus at the front and Acera at the rear as derailleurs. These are mid-level MTB components predomitly used on hybrids. This 27-Speed combination is perfect for urban riding as they offer quick and smooth shifting for both flyover climbs and gaining quick speeds on flat surfaces. The Shimano Altus shifters were easy to engage on both the index trigger and the thumb.

The Quick series of hybrid bicycles are known to be stylish and neat. The Quick 5 Disc which I test rode came in a full black frame with minimalistic stripes in grey and white on the forks, seat tube and chain stay. The gloss paint job was top notch and did make the bicycle shine. Like always they branding was minimal with the brand name on the top tube, model name on the forks and the series 5 on the seat tube. The lack of cable routing at this price point was a let down.

Same as last year the Quick 5 comes with Tektro M-285 16mm Hydraulic Disc brakes. These brakes are more than sufficient for city riding in traffic and help a lot when the surface is either muddy or wet. The balanced braking will help you ride safely without having the worry of stopping in time.The C4 Stock Cannondale handlebar has also been a constant on this bicycle. The 64mm width and the slight 2mm raise give the perfect riding posture for efficient yet comfortable pedalling.

The Schwalbe Spicer 7x3C tires has good control characteristics in all weather conditions, which make it the ideal tire for the city. The protective layer on the inside is stronger and safer. But at the same time they managed to make the material much more elastic, which gives a higher level of protection with good rolling resistance.The stock Cannondale Fitness Ergo saddle were ergonomic in shape and helped be sore free for a long time. But the material felt a little slippery with standard cycling clothes. The overall ride quality was fast on urban roads.
