Cosmic is an Indian bicycle brand which has been around for a few years. Most of their range has been urban MTB bicycles and the recently launched models are also in the same category. We got the opportunity to test ride the Cosmic Hulk 27.5 and here is what we thought.
A well spec’d hardtail MTB which can handle both urban roads and flat trails comfortably.

The Cosmic Hulk 27.5 is a hardtail MTB with a strong 661 Alloy frame. This frame did feel heavy when riding but it does not slow you down. The heaviness has its positives as it can take in quite a bit of vibration from the surface and also on drops the bicycle stays balanced. The curved and slanting top tube make the frame geometry comfortable while still having a bit of forward bend to make it easy to accelerate and get low on downhills. The Zoom front suspension fork was basic and with a working travel of 6-65mm, this fork can help get a smoother ride on urban roads and on flat or slightly bumpy trails.

The 661 hardtail Alloy frame comes in a standard 18.5” frame size and has a comfortable frame geometry
The gearing department in the Hulk 27.5 stood out during the review, I was expecting to see a full Tourney setup, but Cosmic surprised us a little by installing a Shimano Altus at the rear with Shimano Tourney at the front as derailleurs. During the test ride these gears worked well and the 3x8 speed drivetrain did give that extra bit of speed needed for a better MTB riding experience.

The Shimano Tourney/Altus 24-Speed had enough range for flat trails and commutes
This bicycle which I test rode came in a full black frame with red and grey graphics. The matte finish paint job was superior in quality and the refreshing new graphic design gave a whole new outlook to this bicycle. The slanting top tube along with thin stays and rugged tires makes this a stylish yet rough looking hardtail MTB.

The Hulk 27.5 comes in 2 colour variants - Black with Red/Grey graphics and Black with Yellow/Grey graphics
The Mechanical Disc Brakes at the front and rear on the Hulk 27.5 were sufficient for commutes and flat trail rides. During the test ride these brakes felt safe to use and reacted well. The brake levers were in ideal reach from the bars and easy to engage. The stock handlebar from Cosmic was not the most aggressive nor was it fully raised. These bars gave comfortable shoulder position and was perfect for maneuvering in traffic and to have total control on fast trails.

The Mechanical Disc Brakes were safe to use on both wet and dry surfaces
The CST All Terrain 27.5” x 2.1” MTB tires were heavily treaded all over including the corners. During the test ride these tires provided a lot of traction on rough surfaces and heavy braking and cornering felt safe thanks to the thick square shaped tread buttons. The Comfort CRO saddle did not have the most ergonomic design but the widest part of the saddle was cushioned so well that it will make your flat trail rides sore free. The overall ride quality was comfortable on both urban roads and rough surfaces.

The CST All Terrain 27.5" x 2.1" MTB tires was treaded sufficiently to keep the bicycle balanced on smooth and rough surfaces
This hardtail MTB is fast rolling on city roads as well as grippy on flat trails. The comfortable geometry along with the 24-Speed drivetrain gives enough gear range to climb and accelerate as well. Most importantly the heavily treaded 27.5’’ x 2.1’’ MTB tires will keep the rider safe on rough surfaces. If you are someone looking to buy a MTB for commutes over the week and trail riding on the weekend then the Cosmic Hulk 27.5 is an ideal and pocket friendly choice to consider.Prices are subject to change by the brand, without due notice.
