Hero Cycles are one of the biggest and most successful bicycle brands in India. Hero has been around for more than 6 years now and has various categories of bicycles with a few sub-brands under them. The sub-brands being Hero Sprint, Hero Sprint Pro and Hero Octane. We got the opportunity to test ride the Hero Sprint Trans 26T and here is what we thought.

A value for money 26” urban MTB with suspension lockout, dual disc brakes and a 21-Speed drivetrain.

Snapshot

The Hero Sprint Trans 26T is built on a strong hardtail 661 alloy frame. The frame geometry is comfortable with a higher standover clearance and also has a higher ground clearance to roll over obstacles comfortably. The suspension fork on the Trans 26T was basic with a working travel of 65mm during the test ride. This was sufficient for riding on urban roads and slightly patchy surfaces. The suspension lockout was useful to make them rigid and thus ride faster on flatter patches.

The Trans 26T comes equipped with Shimano Tourney TZ front and rear derailleurs. These derailleurs are the latest edition of Tourney's from Shimano and the gear shifting was smooth and experienced no lags during the test ride. The Shimano EF-5 21-Speed shifters felt easy to use with quick and responsive spring action.

The bicycle which I test rode came in a full black frame with forest green as the secondary colour with neat and stylish graphics. The adjoining top and bottom tubes not only make the frame stronger but also make it look sturdy and bulky. The matte finish paint job was of good quality. The white gear cables and black brake cables were a good contrast and enhanced the aesthetics of this bicycle.

The mechanical disc brakes at the front and rear were sufficient for precise and safe braking performance on dry and wet urban roads. During the test ride, when braking on fast turns and in traffic, it felt balanced and had a quick response time. The 68mm alloy handlebar was wide and gave an open chested riding posture while still being comfortable. The grips were comfortable on the palms.

The Hero Sprint Pro Trans rolls on a pair of 26” x 2.1” MTB tires along with Spur XCR alloy rims. The treading was bulky and evenly spaced out, giving superior traction on smooth and rough urban roads. The stock racing PU saddle was sporty in design with the perfect length and width to keep the rider comfortable and stable.

This urban hardtail MTB was comfortable to ride with an open chested handlebar posture and good quality grips. The latest version of Shimano Tourney 21-Speed derailleurs was smooth in shifting during the test ride. The suspension lockout helped in making the fork rigid and thereby able to accelerate faster on flatter surfaces. Priced at Rs.15,3 (as on the 2th of November 218), the Hero Sprint Trans 26T is an ideal bicycle for riding on flat and rough urban roads.Prices are subject to change by the brand, without due notice.
