Lightspeed Dryft Review

Lightspeed is a new Indian brand registered as Lightspeed Mobility Pvt Ltd out of Ahmedabad, India. They specialize in building E-bicycles. Launched in the 2nd half of 2017, Lightspeed is slowly gaining attention across the country. They have 3 E-bicycles models to their portfolio currently. We got the opportunity to test ride the Lightspeed Dryft and here is what we thought.

The Lightspeed Dryft is a powerful, easy to use and a strong E-bicycle for both commuting and moderate trail rides.

Snapshot

The Lightspeed Dryft comes with a steel frame. At the first glance and the first few pedals you might think that the bicycle is extremely heavy because of the battery pack installed on the bottom tube but no the steel frame also contributes towards the weight of the bicycle. That being said this steel frame is still strong and welded smoothly and is capable of taking lot of hard hitting of both tarmacs and trail surfaces. The frame build has been done keeping in mind the battery pack and thus keeping the weight distribution on point. This E-bicycle comes in a single frame size. The front suspension fork was more than sufficient to handle those bumps and potholes in the city.

The Dryft which I test rode came in an equal shade of blue and orange colours. The dual colours blended in perfectly thanks to the neat design. The battery pack wasn’t the most compact but it sits well on the down tube thanks to the sturdy and stylish battery holder. The front LED lights and the backlit digital display does improve the aesthetics of this E-bicycle. According to the brand the customer can customize the colours of the E-bicycle if they wish. The digital LCD display shows the temperature, time, pedal assist number, speed and also has the option to show the average speed and Kilometers travelled, which can all be reset.

Brakes play a much bigger role on an E-bicycle which has a maximum speed of 25kmph with quick acceleration. The Dryft comes with front and rear mechanical disc brakes. These brakes were enough to make the bicycle come to a sudden halt even at 25kmph. It also reacted well to quick interval braking in traffic. The handlebar was lengthy and gave a comfortable riding posture. The switch on the left handlebar grip for changing the pedal assist and the accelerator on the right handlebar grip were comfortable and easy to use.

The mechanical disc brakes were safe and responsive to use even while going at a max speed of 25kmph

The Dryft comes with a pair of Kenda 26” x 2.1” MTB tires. Because of its 26” circumference these tires were good enough for city roads and sometimes very useful to get on and off curbs. The 2.1” width along with the heavy treading gave great traction on both rough urban roads and trails. The stock saddle had enough padding on the widest parts and was comfortable to sit during a bumpy city commute. The overall quality was comfortable and fast on city roads.

This E-bicycle is easy to recharge and use. The strong frame with great brakes and well-treaded tires make for a good alternate urban commuting vehicle. The aesthetic graphics along with the bright LED headlight makes it a complete MTB-commuter. Priced at Rs.39,999 the Lightspeed Dryft is the perfect choice for anyone looking to buy a performance focused and cost-saving electric-bicycle for urban roads and trails.Prices are subject to change by the brand, without due notice.
