Mach City iBike Single Speed (2018) Review

Mach City after becoming a separate brand have set the tone with their stylish and functional urban bicycles. The 2018 range of bicycles from Mach City has been launched and there quite a few surprises. We got the opportunity to test ride the new Mach City iBike Single Speed and here is what we thought.

An easy to maintain and simple single speed bicycle built for riding in the city.

: The Mach City iBike Single Speed is built on a full steel frame. This frame is rigid and strong. The strength can be felt even while riding as even though frame is heavy it does not transfer the vibrations from the road to the rider. The frame geometry is the same as always, simple rounded tubes with a straight back riding posture. The steel rigid fork along with the seat and chain stays are thin which helps keep the weight in check.

: As the name of this bicycle, this iBike comes with a single-speed drivetrain. The 44 teeth chain wheel is as basic as it can get. Pedalling around during the test ride was simple and easy. Climbing flyovers in the city will be a bit of a struggle. Single speed bicycles are easy to maintain and perfect for short commutes inside the city.

: The iBike Single Speed was the first model to be launched by the revamped Mach City brand and it was an instant success. The main reason for that was the use of single shade colours, which wasn’t flashy. The bicycle which I test rode came in a new Acid green coloured frame with minimal black stickers for the logos and names. The gloss paint job quality was neat and the new colour shade was refreshing.

: The SYPO V-Brakes at the front and rear on the iBike Single Speed were balanced and worked well when braking on smooth and slightly muddy roads. Both interval braking and jamming weren’t too much of a hassle either. The brake levers were long and easy to use with a comfortable reach from the handlebar.The handlebar was lengthy and gave a comfortable riding posture. The handlebar felt a little hard and could have had some extra cushioning.

: The Mach City iBike Single Speed rolls on a pair of 26” Ralco tires. These tires are the perfect blend between MTB and Hybrid tires. They are well treaded and they provide good traction on both wet and dry conditions on city streets. The saddle wasn’t ergonomic but had enough padding to keep the rider comfortable over speed breakers and bumps. The overall ride quality was comfortable on urban roads.

: When compared to the previous version of the iBike Single Speed there are no major changes in the 218 version. Simple riding posture, well-treaded tires and single speed drivetrain make it ideal for riding in the city. With 1 matte and 3 gloss colour variants there are lot of choices to pick from.
