Merida Scultura 500 (2018) - Review

The Merida Scultura 5 is a Scultura Lite frame which is made out of an Alloy. The frame has been designed ergonomically allowing for a comfortable, yet aggressive riding position. The frame weighs a mere 8.7kg and is available in a wide range of sizing options. The frame allows the perfect blend of enhanced performance and comfort. The longer head tube provides an upright riding position, ensuring it's still well suited for all day riding, or long distance riding. The bicycle comes equipped with a pro full carbon fork. A full carbon fork is lighter, safer, and more comfortable than its alloy equivalent.

The Merida Scultura 5 is a high end performance road bicycle and comes equipped with a 22-Speed Shimano Ultegra drivetrain. With a price tag of just under a lakh, the components are rather impressive. When on the test ride, the shifting was almost dream like. The transmission of the gears was incredibly smooth, and the shifters required a light nudge to function.

Merida is known for smart looking, well-designed bicycles. This applies to the Merida Scultura 5 as well. The bicycle is available in a single colour option, a petrol blue with yellow and teal decals. The branding is subtle, yet catches your eye. The colour scheme of the bicycle makes it look elegant and classy. This bicycle is sure to stand out while on the road.

The Merida Scultura 5 comes equipped with Shimano Ultegra V-Brakes, controlled by Shimano Ultegra brake levers. The braking was precise and effective, adequate to being the bicycle to a complete stop without being abrupt. When riding on wet surfaces, one might need a little additional braking force to bring the bicycle to a complete halt. This bicycle comes equipped with a Merida Expert Alloy drop handlebar. The width of the handlebar was adequate enough to allow for a comfortable riding position. The drops are ergonomically designed and well placed, ensuring just the right amount of aggressiveness when it came to using the drop bars.

The Merida Scultura 5 comes equipped with Maxxis Dolomites 7x25C folding tires. The tires are fast rolling and ensured a smooth, zippy ride. The Merida Sport saddle had just the right amount of cushion, to allow for a comfortable experience while on the bicycle. Overall, the Merida Scultura 5 is an impressive performance oriented road bicycle that is sure to take one's cycling experience to a whole new level.
