Montra Trance Woman (2017) - Review

The Montra Trance Woman has been made using a 661 alloy frame, which is durable, sturdy and lightweight. The frame geometry has been ergonomically designed to be well-suited to women riders of all ages, across a range of heights. The downward sloping top tube enables easy mounting and dismounting from the bicycle. The frame is available in two sizes - small (16.3”) and medium (17”). The Montra Trance Woman comes with a Zoom front suspension fork. This suspension fork has 5mm travel, which is the most basic amount of travel one can expect out of a suspension fork. However, given that this is a hybrid bicycle to be used in cities and on longer rides on flat surfaces, the said travel will work fine to absorb shocks felt over potholes and other bumps on Indian roads.

The Montra Trance Woman comes equipped with Shimano Tourney Derailleurs at the front and the back. When on the test ride, the gears shifted with ease, allowing for smooth, seamless shifting, with no delay between the shifts. The shifting is controlled by Shimano EF-5 trigger shifters, which are well placed on the handlebar and are accessible with no strain.

The Montra Trance W has been designed keeping simplicity and elegance in mind. While reds and pinks are generally associated as a universal color preferred by women, Montra has gone a safe way by choosing a classy royal purple that is certain to stand out while on a group ride. The bicycle is available in a single color option - a matte black with purple decals.

The Montra Trance Woman comes equipped with Power alloy V-Brakes. The 11mm arms ensure that the brakes are well balanced and level, even with regular usage. The Brake Levers were well placed, well within reach, requiring two to three fingers to operate. The brake levers required only a light pull to ensure effective braking. Thee brakes work effectively on both wet and dry surfaces.The XMR Alloy 62 mm handlebar on the Montra Trance Woman, ensures a comfortable ‘open-chested’ position as well as supreme control and maneuverability of the bicycle in traffic and crowded riding conditions.

The Montra Trance Woman comes equipped with 7x35C Seyoun Hybrid tires. These tires were found to be fast rolling, making riding the bicycle on Indian City roads a breeze. The light treading on the tires ensures good grip, making it easier to ride on different road surfaces, and in varied weather conditions. The Montra Comfort Saddle was well cushioned, adding to the overall satisfaction of the ride quality. Furthermore, the saddle has a color coded purple streak down the center, to match the color on the frame of the bicycle.
