The Roadeo brand has grown to create a mark for itself in the youth/teenager bicycle segment with its flashy designs and value for money specifications. The 2018 range of Roadeo's saw not only refreshed older models but some new bicycles too. Fugitive is one such model and we got the opportunity to test ride the Fugitive 29'' and here is what we thought.
The perfect entry-level bicycle for basic commuting and occasional flat trail rides.

The Fugitive 29 is built around a full steel hardtail frame. This frame is heavy and this is felt when riding uphill and also when pushing through the higher gears. The top tube is slanting with an increased stand over clearance which makes riding on flat trails comfortable. The strength of this steel frame helps absorb vibration of the surface and also will last longer. This bicycle comes with a steel suspension fork with a minimum travel. The suspension fork is sufficient for city roads but for a 29er urban MTB these forks aren’t enough for the bumpy trails.

The steel frame has a comfortable ride geometry and comes in 2 sizes - Medium and Large
The Fugitive 29 (2018) is equipped with a 21-Speed Shimano Tourney drivetrain. The Tourney derailleurs at the front and rear are entry level MTB gearing which means they have a wide gear range which is ideal for both city riding and trail rides. During the test ride these derailleurs worked well on both smooth and rough surfaces. In a new bicycle there might be some lag in the gearing which can be rectified with some tuning. The ShimanoEF-41 21-Speed shifters were easy to use.

The Fugitive 29 comes in just 1 colour variant - Dark Blue frame with Light Blue and Neon Green graphics

This bicycle which I test rode came in a dark blue frame with light blue and neon green graphics. The gloss finish paint job was of superior quality and had some shine to it. The brand name was represented in a funky way in multiple places on the frame. The flashy design and rugged looking 29’’ tires definitely makes this bicycle look like a full-fledged hardtail MTB.
This 29er Fugitive comes installed with C-Star mechanical disc brakes at the front and rear. During the test ride I put these brakes to use on both rough and smooth surfaces and they felt safe and balanced. The Shimano EF41 brake levers were easy to reach from the bars. The handlebar on the Fugitive 29 is the same as found on majority of the 218 Roadeo range; a 6mm wide handlebar with a slight raise which gives both a comfortable posture and easy steering.

The C-Star Mechanical Disc Brakes at the front and rear are a good value addition
This Fugitive rolls on an exciting 29” x 2.125” Wanda King MTB tires. The 29inch tire sizes makes this MTB capable of handling flat but rough trails and can go over curbs on city streets with ease. The treads were bulky and evenly spread out giving good traction on rough and smooth surfaces. The XMR PU saddle wasn’t the most ergonomical but had enough cushioning to keep you from complaining of any soreness. The overall ride quality was comfortable on both rough non tar surfaces and smooth tar roads.
