Urban Trail H2 (2015) Review

Urban Trail is a performance bicycle brand born out of the Hero cycles umbrella. Even though UT is known for its hardtail MTB's the H series of hybrid bicycles are a refreshing range for fitness and commuting rides on urban roads. We got the opportunity to test ride the UT H2 (2015) and here is what we thought.

The Urban Trail H2 is a pocket friendly and lightweight hybrid bicycle for fitness and commuting purposes.

Snapshot

The UT H2 comes with an alloy frame. This frame is the same as seen on the UT H2D which we had reviewed earlier. During this test ride I found the frame to be lightweight and the geometry was focused on comfort. The riding posture was comfortable and best suited for commuting and fitness rides. The top tube was slanted and made it easy to get on the cycle. This hybrid bicycle comes with a front suspension fork. The ZOOM suspension fork comes with a 5mm travel and worked well during the test ride. The lockout feature was a bit hard to engage. The functioning of this fork was very useful to make the ride smoother on urban roads.

Being a hybrid bicycle, the UT H2 comes with Shimano MTB entry level components which has been the usual practice. With Shimano Tourney at the front and Shimano Altus at the rear as derailleurs the gearing transmissions helps get through fitness and commuting rides easily. During the test ride these derailleurs worked well without any major negatives. The Shimano EF51 21-speed shifters were easy to use with both the index and thumb shifters responding well to quick shifts.

Urban Trail's H2 is built on a full black frame with blue graphics. The design is simple and neat with minimal graphics. The brand name and model name is given in a subtle manner. The stock saddle is colour coded to the frame colour thus bringing out some uniformity. The matte finish paint job on the frame enhances the aesthetics of this bicycle.

There are 2 variants of the UT H hybrid series, the H2D which comes with dual disc brakes and the H2 with V brakes which we are reviewing here. The Promax V-brakes at the front and rear worked well during the test ride on busy urban roads. Quick stopping and turning using these V-brakes were safe but jamming of brakes for sudden halting wasn’t the quickest. The UT H2 comes with a 6m wide handlebars with a 25mm rise. These handlebars were wider than usual hybrids, thus giving the rider a comfortable riding posture. The grips weren’t the best and could have done with little more cushioning and grip.

The UT H2 rolls on a pair of 7C x 35C Wanda tires which are well supported by double walled alloy rims. These tires had enough grip to keep the rider safe on urban roads and the wheelset is also very light. The stock saddle had more than enough padding and was perfectly shaped to keep the rider sore-free on long rides. The overall ride quality was comfortable and fast on urban roads.

This bicycle is built to ride smooth and fast on urban roads in traffic for commuting and also long distance rides for fitness. The V-brakes weren’t the best for sudden halts. Priced at Rs.18,9, the Urban Trail UT H2 (2015) is a good buy for anyone looking to get a bicycle for basic fitness and commuting purposes.Prices are subject to change by the brand, without due notice.
