Firefox Axxis 27.5D SSP Review

Firefox have been launching new models of bicycles over the last 6 months, which increases their portfolio across bicycle categories. Hardtail MTB's are a popular range of bicycles from Firefox with varied price ranges, designs, specs and are built for performance. We got the opportunity to test ride the Firefox Axxis 27.5D SSP and here is what we thought.

A functional hardtail MTB which is built to tackle flat trails and also for short urban rides.

Snapshot

The Firefox Axxis 27.5D SSP comes with a hardtail steel frame. The top tube on this frame has a slanting top tube, which made sure the rider gets extra stand over clearance when riding over rough patches. The frame is responsive and clearly feels like riding a performance MTB. The weight of this bicycle was 14.6kgs, which is good for a trail/urban bicycle. The front suspension fork worked smoothly and had a working travel of 6mm which was more than sufficient for flat trails and rough urban roads.

SSP in the bicycle's name means Single-Speed. Yes! The Firefox Axxis 27.5D comes with a Single-Speed drivetrain. The 4T crankset contributes towards smooth pedaling on urban roads and flat trails. Acceleration and climbs would require extra effort but other than that this bicycle is easy to pedal and is very low maintece.

This hardtail MTB that I test rode came in a full black frame with orange and fluorescent green as the secondary colours. The colours were bright and are sure to make heads turn on the road. The matte finish paint job was of top quality and is a positive on a bicycle at this price. The colour coded handlebar grips, saddle, fork and rims add to the aesthetic appeal of this bicycle.

The JAK branded Mechanical Disc Brakes had sufficient power and felt balanced for stoppages on both urban roads and flat trails. Sudden braking isn’t the fastest to halt but interval braking is comfortable. The brake levers felt average in build but comfortable to use.The 66mm handlebar was wide and gave an open chested riding posture. The handlebar grips were comfortable on the palms.

The Axxis 27.5D SSP rolls on a pair of 27.5” x 2.1” MTB tires. These tires were heavily treaded and provided good traction on both wet and dry surfaces. The uniform treading made sure that cornering with these tires felt balanced. The stock saddle was both ergonomic and had the perfect width to keep the rider comfortable and stable on bumpy rides. The overall ride quality was comfortable.

This hardtail MTB with a slanting top tube gives the rider extra stand over clearance. Weighing 14.6kgs, this bicycle felt easy to maneuver on single tracks and in traffic on urban roads. The matte finish paint job and bright colours added to the aesthetic appeal of this bicycle. Priced at Rs.11,9(as on 1st November 218) the Firefox Axxis 27.5D SSP is ideal for anyone looking to buy a bicycle to ride on flat trails and urban roads.Prices are subject to change by the brand, without due notice.
