Firefox Kreed 27.5D - Review

The Firefox Kreed 27.5D is built on a strong hardtail Steel frame. The frame geometry is the perfect mix of comfort and aggressiveness. The slight slant in the top tube gives that extra bit of standover clearance which makes getting on and off the saddle easy and safe when riding amidst traffic on urban roads. This Steel frame is heavy and for the price of this bicycle an Alloy frame would have made more sense and could have shaved up to 2.5 kilograms from the overall weight.The suspension fork on the Kreed 27.5D had just enough travel to get you through flat trails and rough urban roads. A little more smoothness and extra travel would have improved the suspension performance.

The Kreed 27.5D comes equipped with Shimano Tourney TY5 / Microshift FD-M2 3-Speed in the front and Shimano Tourney TY5D / Microshift RD-M21L 7-Speed at rear as derailleurs. Both these derailleurs are a recent version of Tourney from Shimano and the overall gear shifting was smooth and experienced no lags during the test ride. The Shimano Altus EF5 / Microshift TS38 3X7-Speed shifters felt easy to use with quick and responsive spring action.Update(24th December 22) The Drivetrain for the Firefox Kreed 27.5 has been updated from Shimano Tourney to a Microshift Mezzo FD-M2 3-Speed front derailleur, a Microshift Mezzo RD-M21L 7-Speed rear derailleur and Microshift TS38 3x7 Speed shifters.</I>

The bicycle which I test rode came in a full Grey frame with Orange and Yellow graphics. The matte finish paint job was top notch in quality and was smooth as well. The unique graphics on the head tube flowing on to the top tube was refreshing and gave a fire like theme. The saddle, rims and handlebar grips were all colour coded to the frame, which made the bicycle look aesthetic.

The JAK branded Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear were sufficient for precise and safe braking performance on dry and wet urban roads. During the test ride, when braking on fast turns and on flat muddy surfaces, it felt balanced and responded quickly.The 64mm Steel handlebar with a 31.8mm raise on the Kreed was wide and gave an open chested riding posture which was perfect for keeping the bicycle in full control on fast flat trails and urban roads. The grips were comfortable on the palms.

The Firefox Kreed 27.5D rolls on a pair of Wanda 27.5’’ x 2.35’’ MTB tires along with Alloy double walled rims. The treading was bulky and evenly spaced out, giving superior traction. The 2.35” width made sure the rider is absolutely safe on fast turns and also when braking on muddy surfaces. The stock MTB saddle was sporty in design with the perfect width and cushioning to keep the rider comfortable and stable.
