As a cyclist and a bicycle reviewer with growing knowledge, I focus on learning the technical aspects of bicycles while sharing honest, practical insights based on real-world riding experiences. My aim is to provide clear and relatable reviews for riders at all levels.
The frame is well made and has solid dropouts
Rigid alloy fork with quick release option and with disc brake mounts
Single speed with 44t to 18t transmitted by KMC Z1 chains
Brakes are from JAK, does a good job
The tyre had less rolling resistance and was able absorb road shocks
Montra is a brand of bicycles given to us by IT Cycle. They are one of the largest bicycle manufacturers in India. This bike is one of the simplest and good-looking ones currently available. The Montra Timba is a single-speed bike with disc brakes and 700c wheels.
Weight: 14kg
Usage:Leisure/Commuting
Montra Timba is made of aluminium alloy tubing. The build quality of the frame is very good. There is a single bottle holder mount and a specific mount for your side stand. And mounting options for a rear rack and fender is provided. Seat height and handlebar adjustment a was required before test riding. The bike is available in two sizes M and L. The test ride unit was L size. While adjusting the seat height the seat post length felt short and there was no safety limit marking. The fork is alloy and had a profile shape and comes with quick release. The rear triangle of the frame is specifically made for single speed, so you don’t get quick release on the back tyre.
The bike is available in two solid colours Red with black and Champagne with black. The bike looks really very beautiful. During the test ride I was asked for the price and how good was it by few people. The look alone is sufficient to make you buy this bike. The decal on the bike is simple which makes it look clean. The top tube tapering down towards the seat tube makes it suitable for both genders. The manufacturer has made the frame designed in such a way which is easy for production, which helps keep the cost down.
Timba is a single speed with 44t crank set from Onyx driving a 18t freewheel cog, its as simple as it gets. Connecting the crank and the cog is KMC Z1 chain with a rust proof coating. During the ride the 44 to 18 ratio combination felt very easy to ride in city conditions, it’s something which makes you feel to take things bit easier. There was a slight alignment issue between the pedal and crank and the chain felt tight on the test bike.
The JAK super brakes are one of the most common mechanical disc brake callipers, these are paired with 160mm rotors. The brakes on the timba where perfect and had nice bite on the disc to provide good stopping power. The levers are also from JAK which are made of both alloy and plastic. The plastic portion is strong.
The handlebar is 620mm wide which is made of steel and makes the bike feel front heavier when lifted. The size of the handlebar seemed a little to long, felt hands were slipping away towards the out. The grips where rubber but had small flexible pins but didn’t provide much cushion.
The wheelset is from XMR, which are alloy and has 700x35c tyres from Ralson. The tyre had less rolling resistance on city roads the ride was smooth. Schrader valve tubes were being used which could be updated to presta valve tubes to pump air less frequently.
The saddle is also from XMR with Montra branding, was hard and looked like race profile. It felt little uncomfortable after 5km ride.
The bike is priced at ₹15,750. It is a very good starter bike for riders who want to start cycling regularly. A change to a drop bar and a more cushioned saddle will elevate the riding experience on this bike.
