The Rockrider ST100 20-inch is a kids’ bicycle from Decathlon designed for young riders aged 6 to 8 years (approximately 3'11" to 4'5" tall). It is built to offer a safe, comfortable, and confidence-boosting riding experience for children who are learning or transitioning into regular cycling. With a focus on ergonomics, stability, and beginner-friendly features, the ST100 is ideal for daily rides around parks, residential roads, or light trails. As India’s largest bicycle website, we took the ST100 for a detailed test ride to understand how it performs in real-world conditions.
The ST100 comes with a robust steel frame that is built to endure the rough-and-tumble nature of children's usage. The frame geometry has been thoughtfully designed with a low standover height, making it easy for kids to hop on and off the bicycle. The slightly sloping top tube increases accessibility and offers more room for error, which is especially helpful for young riders building confidence.
The upright riding posture promoted by the frame geometry is also ideal for young riders, helping reduce strain on the back and shoulders.
"
The fit is quite appropriate for the targeted age and height group, and the frame’s stiffness ensures better handling on urban roads and slightly uneven paths
The ST100 comes equipped with a single-speed drivetrain, which is an excellent choice for kids learning to ride. It keeps things simple by eliminating the complications of gear shifting, while still offering a smooth and responsive pedaling experience. The chain is well-enclosed with a full-length chain guard, ensuring that clothes don’t get caught and fingers stay protected.
This makes the ST100 versatile for everyday use and light trail exploration, ensuring that kids get both exercise and enjoyment without fatigue.
"
The gear ratio is balanced to offer moderate resistance, which is neither too heavy on climbs nor too free-wheeling on flat roads
Comfort is clearly a priority in the design of the Rockrider ST100. The soft handlebar grips ensure minimal strain on the palms during longer rides, and the slightly raised handlebars aid upright riding, which helps in better visibility and control.
The rigid steel fork may not offer suspension, but it contributes to better steering precision and weight balance, which is more crucial for young, light-weight riders. Since the bike is intended for urban and light trail usage, the absence of a suspension fork is not a downside—it keeps the bicycle light and low-maintenance.
"
The ergonomic saddle is well-padded and supports a natural seating posture
Safety is a critical factor for children’s bicycles, and the ST100 delivers with a set of caliper V-brakes on both the front and rear wheels. These brakes are responsive and easy to operate with small hands, thanks to child-specific brake levers. The stopping distance during our tests was short and dependable on both dry and slightly wet surfaces.
Steering is stable and well-calibrated. The handlebar width is proportionate to the frame size, and the front fork maintains good alignment even during quick turns or bumps.
"
Turning radius and control were appropriate for kids navigating tight corners in parks or neighborhoods
The ST100 rolls on 20” x 1.95” knobby tires that provide ample grip on mixed terrains—be it paved streets, school yards, or dusty park trails. These tires offer a good balance between rolling resistance and traction, ensuring the bike doesn’t feel sluggish while still staying planted on the ground.
The saddle is a high point on this bicycle. Designed specifically for kids, it has a wide rear and tapers toward the nose, offering freedom of leg movement.
"
It's adjustable in height and angle, making it easy to fine-tune as the child grows
The Rockrider ST100 20-inch is a thoughtfully crafted kids’ bicycle that checks all the right boxes—durability, safety, comfort, and ease of use. It’s designed for young riders just beginning their cycling journey and offers features that support growth, skill-building, and most importantly, fun.
Whether it’s for short rides around the block or for school commutes, the Rockrider ST100 is a dependable partner for your child’s cycling adventures.
