WaltX Trail 27.5 - Review

The WaltX Trail 27.5 has been made using a 661 Alloy frame built with advanced hydroforming technology. The tech used ensures smooth welds that enhance the strength and durability of the frame. The ergonomically designed frame geometry ensures a comfortable, upright and relaxed riding posture. The frame has the provision to mount a water bottle holder. This bicycle is equipped with a WaltX Suspension fork with an 8mm travel. At the given price point a fork with 5mm travel is common and expected – so, the 8mm travel on this bicycle is an unexpected bonus! The fork works well to absorb shock felt from rugged roads and mild trails. This bicycle is available in a single sizing option of 18”.

The WaltX Trail 27.5 is a 21-Speed bicycle. The bicycle comes equipped with Shimano Tourney front and rear derailleurs whose shifting is controlled by Shimano EF5 Alloy trigger shifters. When on the test ride, the shifting was crisp and precise with no evident lag. The gear transmission was smooth, responsive and quick and the trigger shifters were easy to operate, requiring just the lightest click to shift between gears.

The WaltX Trail 27.5 emphasizes on the broad appeal of simplicity and clean aesthetics. Available in a primary colour of Silk Grey with Neon Green graphics, the bicycle is a treat to look at. The sleek and neat aestheics of the bicycle is enhanced by clean, simple graphics and branding. Additonally, the high quality of the matte finish is evident at first glance on the frame.

The WaltX Trail 27.5 comes equipped with a pair of Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. The braking was adequate for use on Urban surfaces and mild rugged roads. While the braking felt balanced and safe, I feel that the brakes lacked in power to bring the bicycle to a complete stop. And thus, could do with a little more stopping power for precise braking. The Alloy Brake levers felt strong and are well-placed, requiring only 2 or 3 fingers to operate. The Sport MTB 68mm handlebar enables an ‘open-chested’ riding position that is comfortable. Additionally, the length of the handlebar ensures supreme control of the bicycle and quick handling and maneuvering on both Urban roads and Rugged trails. The handlebar grips are on the harder side, while this may not affect the overall performance when used on flat/paved roads, it could be uncomfortable when used on the trail.

The WaltX Trail 27.5 rolls on a pair of DSI 27.5” x 2.1” tires. The ‘raised button’ treading on the tires is placed close to eachother which offers added grip. When on rugged roads, the treading works well to grip the surface and offer added balance and stability, even when on turns. 27.5” wheels are versatile as they are road friendly as well as trail friendly, and are able to tackle well-paved roads, soft muddy surfaces and harsh natural trails with ease. The wheels are equipped with a QR option on the front tire.As of October 1st 221 - The WaltX Trail 27.5 - Grey-Green comes with Maxxis 27.5" x 2.1" Tires.</I>The WaltX Trail 27.5 comes equipped with an ergonomic MTB saddle. The Saddle is wide enough to comfortably accomodate one's sit bones. However, I found that the saddle was slightly long and could do with a little extra cushioning. A plus is that the seat post has a QR option that enables easy and quick adjustment of the saddle height.
